10/03/24 San Francisco Giants Have Bright Spots Emerge Among Dark, Disappointing Season. There's no other way to really cut it; the 2024 season for the San Francisco Giants as a massive disappointment. The front office spent a ton of money ahead of the campaign, bringing in what they felt were upgrades to help push the team back into playoff contention. Reigning Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell was signed in free agency, while former award winner Robbie Ray was acquired in a trade from the Seattle Mariners. Jordan Hicks was also signed, reshaping the rotation headlined by Logan Webb.

9/30/24 Giants $23 million star defends decision to skip finale: 'This game has no meaning'. The San Francisco Giants have good reason to be disappointed with their losing record for 2024. The front office spent more than $200 million, the third most of any Major League Baseball team, in the offseason to add several star players and boost their playoff chances. The Giants gave two-time Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell a two-year, $62 million deal that included a player opt out after this season. Earning $23.5 million and ultimately making just 20 starts this season, Snell made more than $1 million per outing.

9/29/24 San Francisco Giants Ace Shares Candid Thoughts About Upcoming Free Agency. After he wasn't able to land a long term deal this past offseason, the San Francisco Giants gave Blake Snell a short contract that included opt-outs. After a rough start to the season dealing with injury and poor performance, the reigning NL Cy Young winner has turned it around. Now, as he is expected to hit free agency, he is answering questions about his future and what role the Giants will play in it. Snell's struggles to get a long term contract this offseason were shared with his Boras counterparts.

9/28/24 Giants' Tristan Beck, not Blake Snell, starts vs. Cards. Blake Snell's abbreviated season with the San Francisco Giants apparently is coming to a premature end. Snell, the reigning National League Cy Young Award winner, was due to start Saturday in the next-to-last contest of the year against the visiting Cardinals. The Cardinals (82-78) will counter with right-hander Andre Pallante, attempting to cap his first full season as mostly a starter with a third consecutive stellar outing. Snell was signed in March with the intention of joining Logan Webb to become one of baseball's most potent 1-2 combinations as the Giants (79-81) sought to reach the postseason for the first time since 2021.

9/26/24 Mets projected to land former Cy Young in free agency this winter. The New York Mets are closing in on clinching a playoff berth. Erik Beaston of Bleacher Report predicted that they could be a team to watch in the Blake Snell sweepstakes. "The Mets, Cubs and Dodgers are among teams that will seek pitching help this offseason, and any of the three would become better instantly with him in the rotation," Beaston wrote. The Mets will have Kodai Senga back for 2025.

9/26/24 San Francisco Giants Ace Predicted To Land $172 Million Deal in Free Agency. The San Francisco Giants have less than a week remaining with ace Blake Snell before he hits the open market. Snell was looked at as someone who could return to the team just four months ago, but after impressing in a big way over the last two and a half months, all indications point to him opting out of his current deal. There are reasons for Snell to feel confident heading into free agency for the second time in as many years. There's no debating the type of pitcher he is, but after winning the Cy Young Award last season and hitting free agency that winter, his market wasn't what it was expected to be.

9/25/24 Giants expect Snell to test ‘very competitive' free-agent market. San Francisco Giants president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi and the team expect Blake Snell to opt out and test free agency this offseason.

9/24/24 Giants' Farhan Zaidi acknowledges likely Blake Snell free agency reality. Polarizing MLB super agent Scott Boras was incessantly mocked and criticized for the role he played in a dragged-out free agency period. Blake Snell is not regretting anything, though. Los Gigantes are wrapping up another disappointing MLB campaign (78-79 record) and will once again be saddled with a myriad of unpleasant yet critical questions going into the winter. Injuries hindered some of their notable acquisitions and accentuated their already existing problems, preventing the club from really hitting its stride.

9/23/24 San Francisco Giants Pitcher Thinks Matt Chapman Is Key to Recruiting Free Agents. Notoriously, it has been a struggle for the San Francisco Giants to recruit free agents to the team. Reigning Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell and third baseman Matt Chapman were both hoping to land lucrative long-term deals. Both have performed at a high level, as Snell is likely to opt out of his contract and hit free agency again.

9/22/24 Snell strikes out 9 as the Giants beat the Royals 2-0 to complete a 3-game series sweep. Blake Snell struck out nine in six strong innings and the San Francisco Giants completed a three-game series sweep with a 2-0 win over the Kansas City Royals on Sunday. Kansas City (82-72) moved into the second AL wild-card ahead of Detroit (82-74) because it holds the tiebreaker, winning the season series against the Tigers 7-6. Minnesota is a half-game back of Kansas City and the Tigers, pending the outcome of its second game of a doubleheader against Boston.

9/21/24 San Francisco Giants Outfielder Will Be Under Microscope After Disappointing 2024. The 2024 season will go down as one of the more disappointing in recent San Francisco Giants history. Not only are they missing the postseason for a third straight year, and seventh time out of the last eight, but they could see their win total decrease for a third season in a row as well. Ace Blake Snell, third baseman Matt Chapman and outfielder Jorge Soler were signed in free agency. Former Cy Young Award winner Robbie Ray was acquired in a trade from the Seattle Mariners.

9/18/24 Cubs could target reigning Cy Young to bolster rotation for 2025. The Chicago Cubs may be a team to watch in free agency this offseason. There will be plenty of other options, including left-hander Blake Snell, who won the National League Cy Young Award last year. Perhaps he could be a fit for the Cubs.

9/18/24 Blake Snell gets 12 Ks as Giants blank skidding Orioles 10-0. Blake Snell struck out 12 over six innings and allowed just one hit to carry the San Francisco Giants past the faltering Baltimore Orioles 10-0. The Orioles have lost seven of nine to fall four games behind the first-place Yankees in the AL East. Baltimore held a half-game lead on Sept. 5 before its current tailspin, during which it has been outscored 46-18. On Tuesday night, the Giants got the only run they needed when Mike Yastrzemski drove the second pitch from Orioles starter Albert Suárez over the right-field wall.

9/17/24 Blake Snell, Giants dominate punchless Orioles. San Francisco's Blake Snell held the host Baltimore Orioles to one hit across six innings with 12 strikeouts and the Giants began a nine-game road trip by winning 10-0 on Tuesday night. Mike Yastrzemski provided a big night at the plate with a home run and a run-scoring single, while LaMonte Wade Jr. and Michael Conforto also drove in two runs apiece. The Giants (73-78) won for just the second time in their last seven games.

9/15/24 Could San Francisco Giants Replace Ace With World Series Champion?. The San Francisco Giants have a lot to figure out this offseason. What won't help is their ace Blake Snell is expected to opt-out of his contract and hit the open market in search of his megadeal after putting together a strong second half of the year. The Giants can certainly try to re-sign him, keeping him at the top of their rotation with Logan Webb, it's unclear if they are willing to spend around $200-$300 million to keep him in San Francisco with so many other areas needing to be addressed. If they feel like they would rather spend money elsewhere, then they could turn their attention to 2023 World Series champion ace Nathan Eovaldi if he also decided to opt-out of his player option.

9/15/24 San Francisco Giants Have Discovered Foundational Piece To Build Around in 2024. Not much has gone according to plan for the San Francisco Giants during the 2024 season. After a slow start, Blake Snell has looked like the ace the Giants thought they were getting. Others, such as the Robbie Ray trade, have not provided much of a positive impact. Nick Ahmed and top prospect Marco Luciano battled it out in spring training for the starting job.

9/13/24 San Francisco Giants Ace Predicted To Sign Multi-Year Deal With Different Team. The San Francisco Giants season is essentially over. In what will go down as one of the more disappointing campaigns around Major League Baseball, the Giants have a ton of work they need to do this winter. Priority No. 1 will be what they do with Blake Snell. The left-hander is expected to opt-out of his contract, paving the way for him to sign a new deal with a different team.
