All-Star Christian Yelich on a tear as Brewers close Rockies series. The previous two times Christian Yelich was an All-Star, he was one of the best players in the game. Yelich is headed back to the Midsummer Classic for the first time since 2019 and celebrated the occasion Wednesday with a tape-measure homer. On Thursday, he will look to help the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Colorado Rockies for the third straight night to complete a four-game series in Denver. Yelich and catcher William Contreras were tabbed All-Star Game starters Wednesday by prevailing in the second phase of fan balloting.

Shohei Ohtani has become the first player elected to start at designated hitter in four straight All-Star Games. Philadelphia could have three of the four National League infielders after fans voted shortstop Trea Turner and third baseman Alec Bohm to start alongside first baseman Bryce Harper, whose has a leg injury. Rea (8-2) gave up six hits while striking out four and walking none in his fourth victory in five starts. William Contreras and Brice Turang each had three hits to help the Brewers win for the eighth time in 10 games and extend their lead over St. Louis in the NL Central to seven games. Yelich hit a 446-foot home run in the first inning off a sinker from Dakota Hudson (2-12). Yelich is 7 of 14 with three home runs and nine walks in 23 career plate appearances against Hudson.

San Diego ended Texas' three-game home shutout streak on Manny Machado’s two-run shot in the third. Jurickson Profar had two hits on the night he was named an All-Star for the first time as an NL starter. Gavin Stone made the start, and he turned in his worst outing of the year. Stone struggled right from the start, and didn't find much more success as he continued to pitch into the game. Cincinnati Reds Savor The Rare Achievement Of Getting Aaron Judge On A Double Play. Starting with his first homer in his first at-bat against Matt Andriese, on Aug. 13, 2016, there are 220 pitchers so far to experience the frustration of becoming members of the “I gave up a home run to Aaron Judge” club. Conversely there are pitchers in another club, one that is more pleasing from the mound and it is “I got Aaron Judge to hit in a double play” club. In 921 regular-season games, Judge has hit into 92 double plays. Fernando Cruz became the latest, getting Judge to hit into a double play with two on in a one-run game in the seventh.

Edmundo Sosa broke a tie with a short sacrifice fly in the eighth, Whit Merrifield followed with an RBI single and the Philadelphia Phillies topped the struggling Chicago Cubs 5-3 on Wednesday night. According to MLB.com transaction reports, Lamb has signed a minor league deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Lamb signed a minor league deal with Pittsburgh on Friday and was assigned to Triple-A Indianapolis. The 33-year-old opted out of his minor league contract with the Pirates on June 18 but rejoined the organization a little over a week later.

The San Francisco Giants announced on Tuesday that they will be reinstating outfielder Mike Yastrzemski from the 10-day IL, and in a corresponding move are optioning Landen Roupp to Triple-A. The 33-year-old hit the injured list on June 22 with a left oblique injury. The return of Yastrzemski is significant for San Francisco because it marks the return of an everyday starter. Martinez was not in the lineup for Tuesday's 7-2 win over the Washington Nationals as he dealt with left ankle soreness. Martinez said he goes through a pair of cleats every three to four games, and his regular shipment of spikes was delayed. Martinez was asked when the shipment is supposed to come in. The slugger said he felt “sharp pain,” Tuesday morning, but Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said Martinez will miss “hopefully just a day or two.”
