9/09/24 Blue Jays RHP Chris Bassitt looks to slow his ex-team, Mets. The ability to improvise has the New York Mets in position to clinch their three-game series with the host Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday. The Mets (79-65) took the opener on Monday in a resourceful 3-2 victory that enabled them to move one game ahead of the Atlanta Braves for the third and final National League wild-card spot. New York has won 10 of 11 games but needed to score the tying run on a wild pitch and the go-ahead run on a passed ball in a two-run eighth. It was another late-game meltdown for the Blue Jays (68-77), who have lost six of their past seven.

8/20/24 Chris Bassitt walks back perceived criticism of Blue Jays front office. Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Chris Bassitt is walking back on comments that some perceived to be a shot at the organization's front office. The 35-year-old created a bit of a media circus after mentioning in an interview with Jomboy Media's Chris Rose that the organization didn't seem to have a backup plan after losing out on the Shohei Ohtani sweepstakes last offseason. Shortly after the interview came out, Bassitt spoke with Shi Davidi and Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet to clarify those comments, saying that they weren't meant as a shot at anybody in the Blue Jays organization.

8/19/24 Blue Jays Pitcher Blames Team's Lost Season on Failed Shohei Ohtani Pursuit. There's no question that the Toronto Blue Jays have been one of baseball's biggest disappointments. The franchise was expected to compete for the American League East crown this season. Instead, the team has spent the season fighting to get to .500, and sits in last place in the division at 58-66 on the year. Starting pitcher Chris Bassitt hasn't had his strongest season, accumulating a 9-12 record with a 4.34 ERA across 25 starts. He didn't shy away from the pitching struggles, but named one key culprit that he believes is responsible for the team's struggles in 2024. "I'll say this. I think we do a lot of things right here, but I don't want to identify the problems, because some of the problems

Bassitt (8-9) made his remarks after the Tampa Bay Rays (52-51) throttled the Blue Jays (46-56) 13-0 with 16 hits in the rubber match of their three-game series on Thursday. Bassitt also remarked that the embarrassing loss was because the team has been fighting "demons." With the trade deadline five days away, and the Blue Jays not meeting expectations of contending, the assumptions have been general manager Ross Atkins will sell off a handful of veteran players in exchange for prospects.

7/19/24 MLB rumors: Blue Jays starter joins Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette as trade candidate. It has been a disappointing season for the Toronto Blue Jays. Both players are set to enter free agency after the 2025 season and trading them now would net a quality return for Toronto. According to Jon Morosi of MLB Network, starting pitcher Chris Bassitt is also a player to keep an eye on. Morosi notes that a “strong contingent” of scouts will attend Friday night's Blue Jays game against the Detroit Tigers to watch Bassitt and Jack Flaherty.
