10/01/24 Chicago Cubs: 4 highlights from Jed Hoyer's season-ending remarks — including coaching staff changes and Cody Bellinger's looming decision. For the second consecutive year, Chicago Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer sat at the dais trying to explain why a team built with playoff aspirations was again sitting at home as Major League Baseball's postseason got underway. Hoyer, who will be entering the final year of his five-year contract, acknowledged the Cubs' shortcomings. “When I think about our season and where we are I'm disappointed but optimistic,” Hoyer said Tuesday. Beyond the disappointment of not making the postseason (in a full-length season) since 2018, Hoyer touched on a variety of topics during his nearly 45-minute end-of-the-season news conference.

9/30/24 Cubs superstar projected to receive $154 million contract. The Chicago Cubs likely will be aggressive this winter. The Cubs finished the season with an 83-79 record despite being well below .500 at one point this season. There is some real hope that the Cubs could be a playoff team in 2025, and because of this, it wouldn't be shocking at all to see the team be active in free agency. Superstar slugger Cody Bellinger has the option to opt out this winter.

9/30/24 Cubs free agency preview: The biggest questions facing the North Siders. For the fourth consecutive season, the Chicago Cubs missed the playoffs in 2024, and the team will be looking to finally get over the hump and get back into October in the following campaign. Outfielder Cody Bellinger just wrapped up the first season of a three-year deal with the Cubs, hitting 18 home runs and driving in 78 RBI's in 130 regular season games. Bellinger came with a hefty price tag for 2024, making $27.5 million, but the big question will be whether or not he opts out of the remaining two years of his deal and hit the free agent market again.

9/26/24 As the offseason nears, Chicago Cubs slugger Cody Bellinger remains undecided on his future with a player option. Cody Bellinger understands what this offseason could entail. The Chicago Cubs slugger initially got a taste of free agency when the Los Angeles Dodgers nontendered him after 2022 leading to a one-year pillow contract that brought him to the North Side. But last year represented a different opportunity — his free-agency process featured the type of multiyear financial security that came from a ...

9/25/24 Will Cody Bellinger Exercise His Option To Stay With The Cubs?. Cody Bellinger can credit his contract with the Cubs for helping revitalize his career. Released by the Dodgers after a 2022 season in which he put up a .654 OPS in 144 games, Bellinger signed a one-year, $17.5 million “prove it” deal with the Cubs for the following season. At the time, Bellinger was several years removed from being the 2017 National League Rookie of the Year and 2019 NL MVP.

9/24/24 Cubs 'might quietly' hope two-time Silver Slugger declines $27.5 million return. The Chicago Cubs have been eliminated from playoff contention and the pressure is on to figure out how to turn things around for 2025 and beyond. The Cubs re-signed two-time Silver Slugger and former MVP Cody Bellinger to a three-year, $88 million over the offseason with the hopes of making a deep postseason run. As he sought something longer-term, that contract includes player opt-outs after both this season and next, giving Bellinger the opportunity to re-test the market rather than take the $27.5 million he'd earn for 2025 by returning to the Cubs. Now, despite a strong season from Bellinger and his collection of awards, the Cubs might be hoping that he declines that return.

9/19/24 Cubs 'top target' should be projected $200 million star, per insider. A pair of major contracts handed out before the season haven't paid off for the Chicago Cubs. The team re-signed Cody Bellinger to a three-year, $80 million deal and gave manager Craig Counsell $40 million, but now sit on the brink of playoff elimination. Reflecting on the offseason decisions facing Cubs' president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer, FanSided's Robert Murray named Corbin Burnes, likely to be the most expensive pitcher on the market, as the team's number-one priority. “Burnes, however, should be the Cubs' top target this offseason,” Murray wrote.

9/15/24 MLB rumors: Cody Bellinger's opt out plan will excite the Cubs. The Chicago Cubs received some fortunate news on Cody Bellinger this weekend. The 28-year-old outfielder is fully expected to remain with the Cubs instead of opting out of his contract. Bellinger is in the first year of a three-year, $80 million contract, and he will make $27.5 million next year, per Bob Nightengale of USA Today. Following San Francisco Giants third baseman Matt Chapman's gigantic extension from a week ago, it was expected that Bellinger would plan for a long-term deal to remain in Chicago, or seek a future with another club.

9/09/24 Cubs Vs. Dodgers Game Preview: Cody Bellinger Back At Dodger Stadium. As the Los Angeles Dodgers continue their march toward another National League West title, their homestand continues against Cody Bellinger and the Chicago Cubs, who have cooled off after surging into the Wild Card picture. The Cubs are 6-4 in their last 10 games but sit five back of the red-hot New York Mets for the final Wild Card spot in the NL postseason bracket. This week's series is not Bellinger's first visit to Dodger Stadium since leaving the Dodgers in free agency, so he doesn't figure to get another tribute video.
