8/09/24 Could Seattle Mariners' huge walkoff win be the jolt they need?. The first eight innings of the Seattle Mariners' game on Thursday night was a continuation of a frustrating week. Do Mariners have a way to get Julio back from injury faster? It was just about as bad entering the ninth inning on Thursday against the Detroit Tigers, too, with Seattle trailing 3-1 with a meager three hits on the night to its credit. Hits by Luke Raley and Randy Arozarena, plus a massively important walk by Jorge Polanco, loaded the bases with two outs for Mitch Haniger.

7/21/24 Raley hits three-run homer to help Mariners overcome injury to Rodriguez and beat Astros 6-4.

SEATTLE (AP) — Luke Raley hit a three-run homer, Bryan Woo pitched 5 2/3 solid innings and the Seattle Mariners overcame an injury to Julio Rodríguez to beat the Houston Astros 6-4 on Sunday.

Rodríguez left the game with two outs in the sixth inning after he leapt for a flyball and appeared to twist his right ankle against the pad of the center field fence on a triple by Yordan Alvarez, who hit for the cycle.

Rodriguez grabbed at his ankle in pain and stayed on the ground for several minutes before walking off the field with manager Scott Servais and trainer Taylor Bennett. Servais said initial X-rays were negative.

“He's got a little bit of an ankle sprain there," Servais said. "Right now what I've been told is it's going to be day-to-day. We'll see where it's at there.”

Servais added that Rodríguez would likely get an MRI.

“We'll take all precautions there and make sure he's 100% before he gets back out there,” Servais said.

The hit against Taylor Saucedo was the third of the game for Alvarez, who also had a first-inning single and a fourth-inning homer against Woo. Alvarez completed the cycle with a double in the eighth against Mariners reliever Gregory Santos.

“I’m very excited,” Alvarez said. “I felt a little bit of pressure there, but I knew I needed a double and when I hit the ball, I said, ‘there it is.'"

It was the first cycle of Alvarez's career and the 10th in Astros history.

“That’s not easy to do, especially for a slugger,” Astros manager Joe Espada said. “It tells you how athletic he is. Able to hit, that looked like 500 feet on that homer, and then able to triple, just tells you not only how good of a hitter he is, but how athletic he is.”

Woo (4-1) retired 10 of the first 11 batters he faced, and...

7/06/24 Castillo dominates for 6 2/3 innings, Raley has 2-run double in Mariners' 2-1 win over Blue Jays. Luis Castillo limited Toronto to two hits over a dominant 6 2/3 innings, Luke Raley had a two-run double in the third and the Seattle Mariners beat the Blue Jays 2-1 on Friday night. Castillo (7-9) was nearly untouchable in his 200th career start, retiring each of the first nine Blue Jays hitters, and not allowing a hit until Kevin Kiermaier hit a solo home run with one out in the sixth. After Kiermaier made it one-run game with a 379-foot shot to right field, Horwitz quickly hit a single back up the middle for Toronto’s second and final hit of the night. But Castillo escaped trouble, as Bo Bichette ended the inning by hitting into a 5-4-3 double play.

7/05/24 Five things we learned from the Orioles' week, including Craig Kimbrel's All-Star case and sticking with Colton Cowser. The Orioles took three of four in a rematch with their 2023 playoff nemesis, the Texas Rangers, then hit the road to take two of three from the American League West-leading Seattle Mariners. The Orioles sent their closer to the mound with a 2-0 lead in a pitcher-friendly park against one of the worst offenses in baseball. Kimbrel proceeded to brush No. 3 hitter Luke Raley's left thigh with a knuckle curve. Five pitches later, cleanup hitter Cal Raleigh crushed a 93 mph fastball down the right-field line for a possible game-tying home run, only to watch it hook 10 feet foul.

5/15/24 Seattle Mariners' Luke Raley heats up, becoming coach favorite. Luke Raley wasn't getting consistent playing time early this season, but the Seattle Mariners outfielder is becoming a favorite among coaches while showing he should be in the lineup more frequently. The left-handed hitting Raley had a career night in Monday's 6-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals. Since Seattle sent outfielder Jonatan Clase back to the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers on April 29, Raley is slashing .375/.444/.688 with three home runs and seven RBI while playing in 12 of 15 games entering Wednesday.

5/14/24 Luke Raley, Mariners look to overpower Royals. It seems Luke Raley doesn't know his own strength. After hitting a 432-foot homer to straightaway center field Monday, Raley was handed the Seattle Mariners' celebratory gold trident before stepping into the dugout. As he was being congratulated by teammates, Raley's face sank as the trident split in half while in his hands. "I hope I'm not responsible for fixing it, but I guess I did break it," Raley said sheepishly on the ROOT Sports postgame show.
