9/30/24 Arraez denies Ohtani NL Triple Crown, wins batting title for 3rd team. Luis Arraez held off Shohei Ohtani’s bid to win the National League Triple Crown and became the first player since the 1800s to earn batting titles with three teams. Kansas City Royals star Bobby Witt Jr. won his first American League batting championship, finishing with a major league-best .332 average. Arraez went 1 for 3 and posted a .314 mark for San Diego, lowest for an NL batting champion since Tony Gwynn’s record-low .313 in 1988. Arraez won the the 2022 AL title at .316 for Minnesota and the 2023 NL title at .354 with Miami.

9/30/24 The impossible feat Braves' Marcell Ozuna needs to pass Luis Arraez for NL batting title. San Diego Padres star Luis Arraez is virtually assured of the National League batting title for the 2024 MLB season. Virtually because there is still a microscopic chance that Atlanta Braves designated hitter/outfielder Marcell Ozuna steals the award from Arraez.

9/28/24 No luck with 'kill shot': Arizona Diamondbacks' defense adds to trouble in loss to Padres. The top of the first inning ended up being the part of Friday night's game that affected the Diamondbacks the most in their 5-3 loss to the San Diego Padres at Chase Field. San Diego scored four runs and got help from an Arizona defense that could not make a few key plays. Defensive plays the team has regularly made all season were instead key hits for the Padres. In the first inning alone — through no lack of effort — Luis Arraez doubled just out of the reach of right fielder Pavin Smith.

9/28/24 Padres secure home Wild Card Series with 5-3 win over Diamondbacks, who slide in NL playoff race. Luis Arraez hit two doubles and a triple, Yu Darvish pitched 5 1/3 gritty innings and the San Diego Padres used a four-run first to beat the sliding Arizona Diamondbacks 5-3. The Padres secured the No. 4 spot in the National League playoff bracket, meaning they’ll host a best-of-three Wild Card Series next week. They had already clinched a postseason berth earlier this week. The Diamondbacks are just behind the Mets and Braves in a tight race for the final two NL wild cards. Arizona has lost four of five.

9/18/24 Three things to know about Luis Arraez's strikeout free streak. For more than a month Luis Arraez simply refused to strike out. The prolific batsman went from August 11 to September 15 without ending up on the wrong end of a third strike. Once September rolled around people began to take notice of the run Arraez was on. In the second inning Houston starter Spencer Arrighetti got Arraez to miss on a curveball low and in.

9/14/24 Fernando Tatis Jr. on a tear as Padres visit Giants. Fernando Tatis Jr. will continue the pursuit of his third consecutive 20-home run season when the San Diego Padres go for a second straight road win over the San Francisco Giants on Saturday night. Tatis followed a game-opening single by Luis Arraez with his 17th homer in a three-run first inning against Giants All-Star Logan Webb in Friday's 5-0 win. The 25-year-old Tatis, who belted 22 homers as a rookie in 2019, has missed reaching the 20-homer mark just twice his career - during the COVID-shortened 2020 season, when he hit 17 in 59 games, and in 2022, when he sat out the entire season while injured and on suspension.

MLB's next longest active hitting streak is 10 games, belonging to San Diego Padres designated hitter Luis Arraez.

9/08/24 San Diego Padres' Luis Arraez Avoids Striking Out to Keep Historic Streak Alive. For all the holes in Luis Arraez's game that his detractors love to pick out, his plate discipline remains unmatched. The San Diego Padres designated hitter went 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI in Saturday's 6-3 loss to the San Francisco Giants. Arraez did not strike out, extending a streak that has earned him a spot in the history books. Arraez has now gone 110 consecutive plate appearances without a strikeout.
