8/31/24 Mariners suffer another agonizing loss to Angels, fall further back in AL West. When the obituary to the Mariners' 2024 regular season is finally written — and it looks like it will come before 162 games are played — this team's inability to beat the Los Angeles Angels will be looked at as one of the major reasons for their failure. On a night where they had to win to keep pace with the Houston Astros in the race for the American League West, the Mariners found a way once again to lose a game they probably should've won in the decaying mausoleum that is Angel Stadium. After the Mariners failed to add to an early lead and lost their advantage in the middle innings, Andres Munoz entered a tied game in the bottom of the ninth, trying to force extra innings. Instead, Munoz misplaced a slider that stayed in the lower inside part of the strike zone — the happy place for most lefty hitters — and Mickey Moniak turned it into a towering fly ball that was gone off the bat for his first career walk-off homer and resulted in a crushing 5-4 loss for the Mariners.

5/28/24 Closer Andres Munoz is on an Insane Run Right Now For the Mariners. As the rest of the bullpen around him has struggled at times this season, Seattle Mariners' closer Andres Munoz is on an epic run over the last 14 games. With Gabe Speier, Trent Thornton and Austin Voth largely out of sorts in middle relief, Munoz has posted elite numbers, cementing his status once again as one of the toughest relievers in the American League.
