9/28/24 Cubs' Nico Hoerner Gets Brutally Honest On Missing 2024 Playoffs. As the Chicago Cubs take on the Cincinnati Reds Saturday in the penultimate game of the season, it comes in dreadful fashion as the team has missed the playoffs. While Cubs players like Jameson Tailon expressed their disappointment, add star Nico Hoerner who spoke about if this season for the team was a failure or not. This season marks the fourth straight that Chicago will miss the postseason as last season was more brutal since they were one game shy of making it. Back then, Hoerner said easily it was a failure, but this time around, he talked about the aspects that were successful according to The Athletic.

Imagine attending a 1–0 game in 1911 or so, for instance, or a 14–11 game somewhere around 2000. On Friday at Wrigley Field, fans of the Chicago Cubs were treated to just such a contest

9/26/24 Cubs fall to Phillies, 9-6, despite Hoerner’s 2 HRs and Alcántara’s first big-league hit. PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Nico Hoerner had the first two-homer game of his career and top prospect Kevin Alcántara notched his first big-league hit for the Cubs on Wednesday night in Philadelphia. But the Phillies countered with plenty of power of their own in clinching a first-round bye for the National League playoffs. Nick Castellanos, Trea […]

9/25/24 Nico Hoerner records career first as Cubs fall to Phillies 9-6. The Cubs may be eliminated from playoff contention, but that doesn't render their final games of the season useless. “No matter where you're at in your career, hopefully you're able to keep a growth mindset on continuing to learn,” second baseman Nico Hoerner said after the Cubs' 9-6 loss to the Phillies.

9/19/24 After Their Second Letdown Season, The Cubs Need An Aggressive Winter. The Cubs are not officially eliminated from the playoffs, but their shot at playing in October is effectively gone. There was a glimmer of hope a few weeks ago, as the Cubs were putting together a hot second half, but series losses against the Pirates, Yankees, Rockies, and Athletics since the start of September have extinguished any hope that the Cubs could overcome the standings deficit they created for themselves in May and June, when they went 21-34. The Cubs were red hot in August — going 18-8 — and they needed to stay that way in the final month but came up short. “We didn't win winning moments, close plays, runners in scoring positions,” second baseman Nico Hoerner told reporters Thursday.

8/31/24 Nico Hoerner helps the surging Cubs rally for a 5-3 win over the sloppy Nationals. Nico Hoerner had two hits and scored two runs, and the Chicago Cubs beat the sloppy Washington Nationals 5-3 for their fifth straight win. Javier Assad pitched six innings of three-run ball as Chicago won for the eighth time in nine games overall. The Cubs, who are trying to make up ground in the race for the last NL wild card, also improved to 18-8 in August. José Tena went 3 for 3 for Washington, and Andrés Chaparro connected for his second career homer. The Nationals put two runners on in the ninth, but Porter Hodge struck out Dylan Crews and James Wood for his third save.

7/21/24 Bases-loaded walk in the 10th gives Cubs victory over D-backs. Nico Hoerner doubled and scored the tying run in the ninth inning, then walked with the bases loaded in the 10th to give the Chicago Cubs a 2-1 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday. Chicago entered the ninth with just one hit before Hoerner sparked the late rally as the Cubs avoided the sweep. Cubs All-Star pitcher Shota Imanaga had a career-high 10 strikeouts and gave up two hits over seven innings, including a home run to Eugenio Suárez.

7/08/24 Cubs Gold Glove Winner Could Be Traded; Will Red Sox Join Sweepstakes?. The Boston Red Sox should be in the market for a little more depth in the middle infield right now with the 2024 Major League Baseball trade deadline quickly approaching. The trade deadline is under a month away and it's almost time for Boston to make a decision, It hasn't seemed like the front office has been committed to buying and investing in the current Red Sox, but they are playing too well to not do so. Boston has been fantastic over the last month and is looking like a real playoff team. It wouldn't hurt to add some second base depth and one player who could be available is Chicago Cubs infielder Nico Hoerner, according to USA Today Sports' Bob Nightengale.

7/03/24 Chicago Cubs' prospect Matt Shaw appears to be headed to Triple-A. It would seem that the second half of the Chicago Cubs' 2024 season will be dedicated to a youth movement, with it looking likely with each passing day that the Cubs will be sellers at the MLB Trade Deadline. Recent rumors have suggested that Nico Hoerner may be among the players traded at the Trade Deadline at the end of the month, with the Seattle Mariners appearing to be a possibility. There is some logic to the idea of the Cubs trading Hoerner considering his contract expires after the 2025 season and the team has two ascending infield prospects in 2023 first-round pick Matt Shaw and James Triantos.

7/01/24 Latest Chicago Cubs Trade Rumor would decimate the core as fans know it to be. The core of the Chicago Cubs could look very different after the Major League Baseball Trade Deadline at the end of the month, and likely not in the way that many fans anticipated at the start of the season. The Cubs' poor play over the past two months has dictated that the team should be sellers at the deadline. Where it becomes difficult for the Cubs is while they should be sellers at the deadline, the regressing play from nearly every player on their roster combined with the contract statuses of the players they would most likely want to trade has put the front office in a spot where selling isn't easy. Perhaps that is why Nico Hoerner's name has been mentioned in the early days of the conversation about the Cubs being sellers at the deadline.

6/27/24 Cubs hope they're finally at start of a hot streak, but their problems don't appear solved. At least the Cubs avoided being swept with their 5-3 victory over the Giants in 10 innings Thursday in the finale of a four-game series. “I'm not one for predicting out at the beginning of the year, but I definitely would not have expected us to be at this point,” second baseman Nico Hoerner said before going 3-for-5 on Thursday with a two-run homer in the third inning.

6/26/24 Cubs stumble to halfway point seven games below .500 after another one-run loss to Giants. The Cubs stumbled to the halfway point of the season with a 4-3 loss to the Giants on Wednesday that kept them rooted in last place in the National League Central. Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer remarked last week that the Cubs had “played the same game, pretty much, for over a month now.” “We try and separate the days and treat each game for what it is,” second baseman Nico Hoerner said Wednesday.

6/23/24 Cubs lose 5-2 to Mets and "haven't really earned the right" to look at NL competitors. The Cubs are one of a handful of National League teams near .500 who have realistic hopes of snagging a wild card spot. “We haven't really earned the right to really look at other people too much,” second baseman Nico Hoerner said. Javier Assad gave up back-to-back homers in the third to Francisco Lindor and Brandon Nimmo, and allowed four runs and seven hits in 4 1/3 innings. Mark Vientos added an eighth-inning home run off Tyson Miller that landed above the center field batter's eye.

6/08/24 Chicago Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner diagnosed with small fracture in right hand, could be headed to IL. CINCINNATI — The Chicago Cubs are in wait-and-see mode with second baseman Nico Hoerner. For one more day at least. 6/07/24 Chicago Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner to undergo further testing on right hand after X-rays are ‘somewhat inconclusive’. CINCINNATI — Chicago Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner is hoping his sore right hand is merely a day-to-day situation. Cincinnati Reds starter Hunter Greene hit Hoerner with a 96.5-mph pitch on the back of his right hand during the fourth inning of Thursday’s 8-4 loss. Hoerner stayed in the game, though postgame X-rays were “somewhat inconclusive,” manager Craig Counsell said Friday. Hoerner ...
