10/01/24 Detroit Tigers' Jason Foley is peaking at perfect time, should be confident for playoffs. Detroit Tigers right-handed reliever Jason Foley registered a 3.15 ERA with 20 walks and 46 strikeouts in 60 innings in 69 relief appearances in 2024.

9/27/24 Jason Foley has been key part of Tigers' playoff push. A 162-game season has its natural peaks and valleys, something both the Detroit Tigers and reliever Jason Foley know well. The shaggy-haired 28-year-old got off to a blazing start to the season -- much like the Tigers -- and carried a 0.00 ERA into late April. The Tigers struggled, too, selling veterans like Jack Flaherty and Carson Kelly at the trade deadline, seemingly signally a shift toward next year. Since Aug. 11, the Tigers have gone an incredible 30-11.

9/27/24 See photos as Detroit Tigers sweep Rays, lower playoff magic number. DETROIT, MI - The Detroit Tigers won the third and final game of the series with the Tampa Bay Rays, 4-3, on Thursday, Sept. 26 at Comerica Park. The Rays led 3-0 until the bottom of the 6th inning when the Tigers scored two runs. The Tigers then scored two in the bottom of the 8th inning to secure the win. RELATED : Red-hot Tigers rally to beat Rays, sweep series Pitcher Jason Foley sealed the Tigers win with a strikeout. The Tigers' magic number is now one. This means the Tigers just need to win one more game, or have the Minnesota Twins lose one more, to reach the postseason. See below for a few of our favorite images. 9/17/24 When good intentions go awry: A look inside baserunning misplay in Tigers' 7-6 win. Had Jason Foley not valiantly slammed the door in the bottom of the ninth to secure the narrow 7-6 victory Monday night, we'd be dissecting and bemoaning this play maybe for the rest of the season. The play happened in the top of the ninth and the Tigers were in position to score what felt like a much-needed, if not mandatory, insurance run. Against triple-digit flamethrower Carlos Hernandez, Spencer Torkelson singled and was motoring toward third on a double into the right-field corner by Zach McKinstry. “I was trying to get my boy an RBI and trying to extend the lead,” Torkelson said after the game.

9/05/24 Tatis hits walk-off single in 10th to give the Padres a 6-5 victory over the Tigers. Fernando Tatis Jr. hit an RBI single with two outs in the 10th inning to give the San Diego Padres a 6-5 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday night. Playing his second game back after being on the injured list since June 22, Tatis singled to left off Jason Foley (3-5) to bring in automatic runner Jackson Merrill, who hit a three-run homer in the fourth and finished a triple shy of the cycle as the Padres overcame a 5-0 deficit. Tatis’ jersey was ripped off during a wild celebration near third base. The Tigers intentionally walked Luis Arraez to get to Tatis. Jeremiah Estrada (5-2) pitched the 10th for the victory.

7/10/24 Here's why Tigers aren't using Jason Foley much in this series and how he feels about it. You might have noticed. The Tigers used six relievers in the first two games against the Guardians in this series and none of them were named Jason Foley. Manager AJ Hinch used right-hander Shelby Miller to dispatch three left-handed hitters in the ninth inning to earn the save Monday night.

5/04/24 Yankees hope offense gets going vs. Tigers. In a four-batter span in the ninth inning, however, the Yankees did enough to eke out a 2-1 victory, and they can secure another series win Saturday afternoon in the rematch with the visiting Tigers. In Friday's series opener, New York was three outs away from getting shut out for the sixth time in its first 34 games until getting four straight hits against Detroit closer Jason Foley. "We've got a lot of good hitters," Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. "It's been a slow week for us, but you hope something like this can kind of ignite that fire a little bit and get the offense cranking, but it's about winning, and these guys have done a great job of that."

4/20/24 Tigers notebook: Innocuous play had big impact in opener vs. Twins. When Tigers manager AJ Hinch talks about how everything matters, go back and review what seemed to be an innocuous play in the bottom of the ninth inning Friday night, a play that ultimately had no bearing on the final score but had a massive impact on how the final out was recorded in a one-run win. With two outs, reliever Jason Foley walked Willi Castro. Castro, with right-handed hitting Christian Vazquez at the plate, stole second base. The throw from catcher Carson Kelly rolled into shallow center field.

2/28/24 Too hot, too soon? Tigers' young pitchers not throttling down for early camp outings. Jason Foley, in his first spring outing Tuesday, threw a 100-mph sinker and his average velocity on 11 of them just a tick under 99 mph. Casey Mize, who's average fastball velocity before his surgery, was 93-94, has been sitting near 97 mph all spring. Drew Anderson's average fastball over his two innings Tuesday was 97 mph, 5 mph firmer than he was throwing the last two seasons in Japan.

8/12/23 Tigers reinstate Jason Foley from bereavement list, option reliever to Toledo. The Detroit Tigers reinstated right-handed reliever Jason Foley from the bereavement list before Saturday's game in Boston against the Red Sox. In a corresponding move, right-hander Trey Wingenter was optioned to Triple-A Toledo. With regular closer Alex Lange struggling, Foley could be in line to receive save opportunities immediately. Foley has been one of the Tigers' most effective relievers in 2023, posting a 2.16 ERA in 50 innings of work. He has 46 strikeouts, 13 walks and has not allowed a home run. He is one of two Tigers players who experienced the death of a grandparent in the last week. Shortstop Javier Baez was expected to take bereavement leave before last Tuesday's game. Instead,

8/08/23 Tigers to place top reliever on bereavement list. DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers will place right-handed reliever Jason Foley on the bereavement list prior to Wednesday's game. Foley's grandmother passed away recently. He will leave for services and is expected to rejoin the team this weekend in Boston. The Tigers will recall right-handed reliever Trey Wingenter to take Foley's spot. Wingenter is 1-0 with a 6.48 ERA in 8 1/3 innings this year. He has struck out 10 and walked three. He was optioned to Toledo just three days ago when the Tigers claimed left-handed reliever Andrew Vasquez off waivers but he is eligible to return already because he is replacing a player going on the bereavement list. Foley has been one of the Tigers' most effective

7/29/23 A dream matchup for Tigers and Foley in the 8th turns into a head-scratching nightmare. Jason Foley said it exactly right. To say that the Marlins collecting three straight singles and scoring two runs off him in the eighth inning Friday night was improbable doesn't even begin to explain it. The Tigers had just rallied to tie the score 4-4 and manager AJ Hinch had to feel incredibly confident sending in Foley to face the pocket of hitters the Marlins had coming up. Foley, with his power sinker, has a 57.7% ground-ball rate.
