Rookie Jhonkensy Noel hit a two-run homer and Andrés Giménez followed with a solo shot in the fifth inning, leading the Cleveland Guardians to a 10-8 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Emmanuel Clase became Cleveland’s career saves leader, notching his 150th — and 40th this season — by working the ninth. Noel’s 450-foot blast came after the Pirates had scored six in the fifth to take a 6-4 lead. Josh Naylor added four RBIs for Cleveland, which entered the weekend with a 1 1/2-game lead in the AL Central. Oneil Cruz drove in three runs and Rowdy Tellez hit a two-run homer for the Pirates.

Rookie Jhonkensy Noel singled home Josh Naylor with the go-ahead run in the seventh inning and the Cleveland Guardians rallied for a 7-5 win over the Kansas City Royals, reclaiming sole possession of first place in the AL Central. The Guardians trailed 5-2 entering the seventh, but scored four times to take their first lead. Bo Naylor homered off Michael Wacha, while Josh Naylor, Will Brennan and Noel had RBI singles against Lucas Erceg. Eli Morgan pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings for the win. Emmanuel Clase earned his AL-best 39th save — with his career-high 26th straight conversion — and matched Cody Allen’s franchise record with 149.

Noel homered for the 11th time in 40 games since making his major league debut on June 26. Noel also tied his career high with three hits and scored three times. The Guardians plated 11 consecutive runs after falling behind 1-0 in the first and won for just the seventh time in their last 20 games. Cleveland is two games ahead of both Kansas City and Minnesota in the division.

Jose Ramirez's first homer in nearly a month put Cleveland ahead for good in the fifth, and his RBI single an inning later provided some needed insurance, as the Guardians beat the visiting Detroit Tigers 5-4 on Tuesday night. Ramirez's 24th home run was his first since June 29, and it broke a 2-2 tie.
