While San Francisco has had some months where they finished the over .500, it hasn't been enough to really give them a realistic shot at the playoffs. The Giants could not have started the game off on a much better note; they scored four in the top of the first inning courtesy of a solo shot from Heliot Ramos and a three-run dinger from Michael Conforto. Giants starting pitcher Hayden Birdsong allowed seven total earned runs — more than double the number of outs he got on the night.
