9/03/24 How Mets' Francisco Alvarez fared after two-game mini-break. Francisco Alvarez was back in the lineup Tuesday after getting back-to-back games off in an effort to help him get out of the slump that has stretched back to late June. Carlos Mendoza hoped the time off would provide a “reset” for the 22-year-old who hit 25 homers a year ago, but has been a mess at the plate for much of this year. Alvarez singled and scored in a four-run eighth-inning in the 7-2 win over Boston at Cit Field, but prior to the game, he acknowledged how rough the struggles have been on him. 9/01/24 Mets' Carlos Mendoza sticking with struggling Francisco Alvarez: 'our guy'. CHICAGO — Francisco Alvarez's offensive nosedive has been steep but not to the point manager Carlos Mendoza is considering a change to the Mets catching structure. “Alvarez is our guy,” Mendoza said Saturday when asked about the possibility of Luis Torrens receiving additional playing time. “Louie has done a hell of a job, but Alvarez is our guy.” Alvarez began the day with an abysmal .435 OPS since the All-Star break and last had a multi-hit game on Aug. 7. 8/17/24 Francisco Alvarez's power outage not worrying Mets hitting coach. The lack of home runs doesn't bother Eric Chavez. That's not the problem, the Mets hitting coach believes, when it comes to Francisco Alvarez's extended slump. “Literally what I told him, I said: 'Everybody wants to talk about homers, everybody wants to jump right into the homers.' I told him: 'I just want you to be a good hitter,” Chavez said of the catcher, who was 0-for-4 in Saturday's 4-0 win over the Marlins at Citi Field. “I said: 'In a few years, you will be the best offensive catcher in this game, no question about it.' I'll put my name on that. There's no doubt. But he just needs to learn how to be a good hitter.” Francisco Alvarez has slumped since carrying the team in June. Getty Images

(AP Photo/Lynne Sladky) AP By Manny Gómez | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com NEW YORK — Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez wasn't happy with what he saw from former teammate, A's reliever Austin Adams on Tuesday at Citi Field. Called upon in relief of Joe Boyle with the A's leading 7-4 with two outs in the fifth, Adams retired the three batters he faced — Jeff McNeil (strikeout), Jose Iglesias (pop out), and Alvarez (strikeout) — in order, following it up with an expletive-laden celebration in which Adams mocked the Mets' “OMG” celebration . 8/06/24 Mets' Francisco Alvarez making 'no excuse' for concerning power drought. DENVER — Francisco Alvarez has been his pitching staff's best friend this season, but the offensive power numbers on which he built much of his reputation have been lacking. The Mets catcher entered play Tuesday with a .263/.327/.419 slash line — numbers many teams would take from a starting catcher. But Alvarez only had five homers in 186 at-bats as the day began, well off his pace last season, when he homered 25 times in 382 at-bats as a 21-year-old rookie. The obvious answer would be to say Alvarez is banged up. 3 Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez (4) hits an RBI single during the second inning against the Los Angeles Angels on Aug. 4, 2024.
