10/04/24 Mets name Kodai Senga their Game 1 starter against the Phillies in the NLDS. Kodai Senga is the surprise Game 1 starter for the New York Mets when they open the NL Division Series on Saturday against the Philadelphia Phillies. Senga has thrown just 5 1/3 major league innings all year. He joined the Mets ahead of the 2023 season on a $75 million, five-year contract and became an All-Star in his first season. He went 12-7 with a 2.98 ERA in 29 starts and finished second in NL Rookie of the Year voting. The 31-year-old Japanese pitcher made just one start this season as he dealt with injuries that included tightness in his right triceps. 9/18/24 Kodai Senga could return to much improved Mets rotation. Kodai Senga will be eligible to come off the IL on Sept. 25 and the Mets still have decisions to make regarding the right-hander , who has been out since suffering a strained calf on July 26 in his lone start of the season in the majors. Senga threw a bullpen session Tuesday at Citi Field and went through fielding drills as the team holds out hope he might be able to provide something in a potential playoff series. In the meantime, the rotation continues to excel, with Tylor Megill the latest example. Kodai Senga, who is recovering from a strained calf, threw a bullpen session on Sept. 17, 2024. 9/14/24 Mets 'pretty optimistic' Kodai Senga will pitch again this season. PHILADELPHIA — The Mets are still holding out hope that Kodai Senga may return before the end of the regular season, with David Stearns saying Saturday he's “pretty optimistic” the team's ace will make it back. If Senga works his way onto the roster from the calf strain that has kept him out since making one start in July, it likely would be as a starter on a short leash. But the pitcher they acquired in part due to Senga's calf injury at the end of July suffered another setback. Kodai Senga sustained a calf injury during his only start of the season for the Mets. Corey Sipkin for the NY Post Paul Blackburn, sidelined first with a right hand contusion before his return was put on hold because

PHILADELPHIA — Kodai Senga's rehab will move to the phase of facing hitters in live batting practice when the Mets return to Citi Field after this weekend, leaving team brass still cautiously optimistic the right-hander will return in some capacity this season. But manager Carlos Mendoza said Friday there are still too many variables in play to start planning a Senga return, either in the final week of the regular season or potentially the playoffs. “It's hard for me to sit here and say, 'Man if he's healthy again or where do I see him?' ” Mendoza said before the Mets' 11-3 win over the Phillies . “I have to wait and see before we have this type of conversation.” 3 Kodai Senga only made one start
