10/02/24 Former Notre Dame Star Michael Mayer Away from the Raiders Due to Personal Reasons. Former Notre Dame Fighting Irish star tight end and 2023 second-round pick Michael Mayer is missing his second consecutive week with the Las Vegas Raiders due to personal reasons. In a Tuesday press conference, Raiders Head Coach Antonio Pierce refrained from providing specifics about Mayer's situation, only stating that he is currently dealing with "personal stuff" and that there is no timetable for his return. Mayer missed practice starting last Thursday due to what was described as a personal issue and was initially listed as questionable for the team's game against the Cleveland Browns.

9/27/24 Davante Adams Out Week 4, hamstring injury. TE Michael Mayer Out as well

#Raiders WR Davante Adams (hamstring) and DE Maxx Crosby (ankle) and TE Michael Mayer will all be OUT, says coach Antonio Pierce: (Paul Gutierrez on X)

FF Today's Take: The hamstring injury strikes again. The Raiders will be without two of their best players against the Browns this week. Without Adams, TE Brock Bowers and Jakobi Meyers are likely to be the top passing game targets with extra snaps given to Tre Tucker and D.J. Turner. Meyers is a reasonable Flex or WR3 option this week.

7/31/24 Can Raiders Lean on Youth at Tight End?. The Las Vegas Raiders were impressed with tight end Michael Mayer's rookie season in 2023. However, that did not stop them from selecting superstar tight end prospect Brock Bowers out of Georgia with the No. 13 overall selection in the 2024 NFL Draft. Pairing Bowers with Mayer gives the Raiders one of the league's most dynamic young tight end duos. The two should be a major fixture in the offense for years to come, but will they be ready to take on the workload they are expected to in 2024? While Mayer and Bowers are both extraordinary talents and were excellent prospects coming out of college, they are still young, so it might be difficult to ask so much of them before they are ready. However,

The Las Vegas Raiders' 2023 draft class saw their first season in the NFL come to an end nearly eight months ago. 7/03/24 REPORT: Raiders' Most Underrated Player Going into 2024 Season. The Las Vegas Raiders will be fielding several new additions this coming season who fans and even some outside of Raider Nation are looking forward to seeing in the Silver and Black. One of the Raiders being overlooked is second-year tight end Michael Mayer, a player who began to gain traction halfway through his rookie season. The attention at tight end has shifted since the arrival of rookie sensation Brock Bowers.

6/11/24 Raiders TE Michael Mayer on Coaching, Brock Bowers at Media Day. Las Vegas Raiders tight end Michael Mayer flashed last year in his rookie season. One of the greatest tight ends to ever play at Notre Dame, the Raiders took Mayer in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft. As a rookie, Mayer caught 27 passes for 304 yards and two touchdowns. Now in Year 2 under new Offensive Coordinator Luke Getsy and alongside highly regarded rookie tight end Brock Bowers, Mayer sees the new coaches and the addition of the superstar prospect as major benefits to him.

6/04/24 Raiders TEs to Earn Targets by Blocking. The Las Vegas Raiders entered the offseason with one of the best young tight ends on their roster: Michael Mayer. In his rookie season in the league, Mayer had the usual ups and downs of a rookie in the National Football League as he learned the ropes. One of Mayer's most significant growth areas last season was his blocking. Las Vegas' previous coaching staff instilled the need for their tight ends to be productive blockers first and pass-catchers second.

6/01/24 Like at QB, Raiders Believe Competition Will Make TEs Better. Earlier this offseason, Las Vegas Raiders General Manager Tom Telesco wanted to emphasize competition among the players to get the most out of the team. Telesco seemed to prove he meant business as he added solid depth pieces to nearly every position on the roster. Although the Raiders traded up in the second round of last year's NFL Draft for tight end Michael Mayer, they were able to draft arguably the best tight end in college football history, Brock Bowers.

5/30/24 NFL teams are using 2 tight ends less frequently, but those that do still find it effective. Michael Mayer appreciated the reassuring call from the Raiders after they selected Brock Bowers with the No. 13 pick in April, though he wasn't exactly thrilled they drafted a tight end. Having two tight ends, after all, could give Las Vegas a strategic edge. "How are you going to stop them?" asked Mayer, who was drafted in the second round last year.

5/28/24 Raiders' Michael Mayer Ready to Play with Brock Bowers. Tight end Michael Mayer was the Las Vegas Raiders' second-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft -- the kind of draft status that establishes the future of the position for a franchise. When the Raiders selected another tight end No. 1 a year later -- a generational player in Georgia's Brock Bowers -- it would be understandable for Mayer, who played in just 14 games as a rookie, to feel cynical of the situation. "It is what it is, I mean, they drafted me last year, so I just gotta come here, keep my head down, keep working hard," Mayer told reporters at a recent OTA.

5/24/24 OC Luke Getsy's Offense Could Get the Most Out of TE Michael Mayer. When the Las Vegas Raiders decided to draft tight end Michael Mayer last season, they expected him to help one of the highest-paid offenses become even more explosive. Maybe, more importantly, it struggled because of an outdated offensive system for most of the season. This offseason, the Raiders brought in a new offensive coordinator Luke Getsy to implement an offense better suited for the talented players on the Raiders' roster.

5/24/24 Raiders TE Michael Mayer Reflects on Rookie Season. The Las Vegas Raiders traded up in the second round of last year's NFL Draft to draft tight end Michael Mayer. As a rookie, Mayer was often not featured in the Raiders' offense as much as many expected when he was drafted. Mayer told reporters on Tuesday that he's had a chance to analyze his rookie season and has learned from it.

5/23/24 Raiders Tight End Michael Mayer Talks Areas Where he's Improved. Las Vegas Raiders second-year tight end Michael Mayer has a promising, yet interesting rookie campaign. After taking a little while to make a consistent impact within the offense, Mayer eventually started to catch his stride. Unfortunately for him and the Raiders, just when he was getting things figured out, Mayer missed the final three games of the season with a toe injury. "I'm 100% now," Mayer told reporters on Tuesday.

5/21/24 'Who's going to guard both of us?' Michael Mayer excited to join forces with Brock Bowers. Las Vegas' second-year tight end was initially surprised by the drafting of Bowers but envisions opportunities for both in Luke Getsy's offense.

5/20/24 Michael Mayer Talks Playing Alongside Brock Bowers. Las Vegas Raiders tight end Michael Mayer discusses how he feels about playing alongside former Georgia tight end Brock Bowers this season. While he may not have been a top-10 pick in the 2024 NFL draft, tight end Brock Bowers was viewed as one of the best prospects in the entire class and one of the best tight-end prospects the league has ever seen. The Las Vegas Raiders ended up taking him with the 13th overall pick.

5/18/24 Raiders' weapon sends subtle warning to rest of NFL amid Brock Bowers addition. The Las Vegas Raiders are far from favorites in a stacked AFC West populated by the Chiefs and Chargers, but Antonio Pierce's team does have the makings of a potential spoiler in the division. Last season, former Notre Dame star Michael Mayer flashed his potential as a talented receiving and blocking tight end. Now, the Raiders are setting their wheels in motion to improve upon their 2023-2024 record of eight wins and nine losses. Mayer's warning came during a truthful admission by Raiders QB Aidan O'Connell about his limitations as the leader of the team's offense.
