9/09/24 Mile High Morning: OLB Jonathon Cooper, WR Devaughn Vele among Broncos with promising Week 1 performances vs. Seattle. With early takeaways and a score that cut the lead to six with just 2:09 to play, the Broncos gave themselves a chance in their season opener against Seattle. Although they ultimately fell short, there were some statistically significant performances that indicated the Broncos could be on the right track in 2024. Denver's defense has been looking for a quicker start this season, and the outside linebacker duo of Jonathon Cooper and Baron Browning showed promise of that during Sunday's loss in Seattle. Among 73 defenders who had at least 15 pass-rush snaps through Sunday of Week 1, Browning ranked second in pressure rate (31.3%) while Cooper was fourth (29.4%), according to Next Gen Stats.

5/28/24 Broncos Mailbag: What are the early impressions of Sean Payton's roster heading into Year 2 in Denver?. On a scale from 1 to 10, how are you feeling about this Broncos training camp roster so far? The bottom line is it's still too early to say, mostly because the pads haven't come on yet and won't until training camp. Sean Payton got into this during rookie minicamp and it's a good reminder this time of year when everybody looks good in helmets and working against air. “The more specific vision (for a player) evolves with the pads and the reps,” Payton said in answering a question about a strong rookie minicamp showing for seventh-round WR Devaughn Vele.

5/13/24 Could Broncos WR Devaughn Vele be the next Tim Patrick? Sean Payton certainly came away from rookie minicamp impressed. Sean Payton was in the midst of making a point about something else Saturday after Day 2 of Broncos rookie minicamp when he noted one of the day's clearest developments. Wide receiver Devaughn Vele, the seventh-round draft pick out of Utah, stood out during practice and not just because he's 6-foot-4. “If you didn't know, you would have said, 'Man, Vele seems to have a pretty good rapport with Bo (Nix) today,'” Payton said. The point he set out to make was that Nix and fourth-round receiver Troy Franklin might benefit from having played together in college, but now that they're rookies playing in a different offense, different league and with different teammates, that shared history might be, “a little overblown.”
