7/15/24 D-backs Amateur Scouting Director Ian Rebhan Explains Ivan Luciano Pick. The Arizona Diamondbacks selected 17 year old catcher Ivan Luciano out of El Shaddai Christian Academy in Puerto Rico with the 64th overall pick of the 2024 draft. The pick raised some eyebrows as Luciano was not ranked nearly that high on many public draft boards. MLB Pipeline for example, ranked Luciano 220th in their pre draft rankings. The draft analysts on MLB Network's television broadcast depicted Luciano as a glove-first prospect and even referenced the work he was doing with Yadier Molina.

St. Louis Cardinals fans are surely frustrated with how the 2024 season is unfolding, but they may have the opportunity to cheer for a franchise legend in a managerial role if the National League Central team decides to make some changes. Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported Thursday that manager Oli Marmol "might pay the price" of his job if the struggles continue. Heyman then suggested the Cardinals could turn toward either Yadier Molina or Albert Pujols for a managing job since both are interested in taking that step in their careers.

5/09/23 Mets catchers have put up weird defensive numbers so far. For all the tools that Tomás Nido lacks, his ability to frame pitches has put him at an elite defensive tier over the last two seasons. It's clear he studies Yadier Molina tape in his spare time, as Nido's framing style shows the subtlety, elegance, and efficiency that Molina brought to the game over the last two decades. Nido has parlayed those skills into impressive framing numbers, as Statcast rated him the best overall framer in 2021 and the fifth-best in 2022. Francisco Álvarez, meanwhile, does not seem to possess the same skills.
