10/03/24 Injury Bug Bites the Braves Again in Final Game of the Year. The Braves' best pitcher, NL Cy Young Award favorite Chris Sale, was back home in Atlanta with a back injury. Max Fried, who started his career as a San Diego Padres farmhand and won the clinching game in the 2021 World Series for the Braves, was in the trainer's room by the third inning.

9/30/24 Former Boston Red Sox, Chicago White Sox Ace Makes History in First Year with Braves. Former Chicago White Sox and Boston Red Sox ace pitcher Chris Sale made history in his first season with the Atlanta Braves this year. One of the best lefties of his generation, Sale enjoyed a full year of health for the first time since 2018 this season.

9/28/24 Red Sox' Alex Cora: 'Hopefully,' Chris Sale wins NL Cy Young. Ex-Red Sox ace Chris Sale is the favorite to win the NL Cy Young award and his former manager is pulling for him. Sale, who the Red Sox traded to the Braves for second baseman Vaughn Grissom on Dec. 30, leads the majors in ERA (2.38) and leads the NL in strikeouts (225).

9/26/24 Braves viewed as a playoff 'sleeping giant,' with a catch. As the Major League Baseball season nears its end in 2024, the Atlanta Braves are increasingly viewed as a potentially formidable contender, should they clinch a postseason berth. Despite currently sitting as a mid-tier team, the Braves have shown characteristics of a “sleeping giant” in the league, poised to make a significant impact in October. “Chris Sale, Max Fried, Spencer Schwellenbach, Charlie Morton and Reynaldo López — the latter of whom is expected back for the final regular-season series and could be a multi-inning weapon out of the bullpen in October — make up the type of rotation nobody wants to face.”

Read our editorial standards for more information. The Mets appeared to be in the driver's seat heading into their series opener against the Braves. New York had a half-game lead over Arizona and a two-game lead over Atlanta as the three teams hunt for the final two wild-card spots. Unfortunately, a 5-1 loss Tuesday means the Braves and Diamondbacks are now both within one game of the Mets. Things won't get any easier in the next game, with the Braves sending Chris Sale to the mound while the Mets counter with David Peterson. Atlanta has been a house of horror for decades for the Mets

9/23/24 Freddie Freeman open to change with Teoscar Hernández in Dodgers lineup. When the Los Angeles Dodgers faced Atlanta Braves ace Chris Sale on Sept. 14, it came with a change to their lineup as Freddie Freeman and Teoscar Hernández swapped spots in the batting order. Freeman moved to the cleanup spot for the first time since 2016, whereas Hernández hit third, behind Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts in the Dodgers lineup.

9/20/24 Chris Sale's potential Triple Crown season for Braves reminds us why he's an all-time great MLB pitcher. At age 34, Sale’s likely Cy Young season will go down as one of the more improbable performances in recent memory.

9/19/24 Chris Sale wins his 18th, and playoff-battling Braves swing big in setting major league record. It was the 18th consecutive game in which he allowed two runs or fewer. “I could tell he was beat [tired],” Braves manager Brian Snitker said. The way he competed to get through that thing, especially in that last inning, he's different. Olson hit his 27th home run and second of the series leading off the second inning.

9/17/24 Braves Lefty Chris Sale Leads NL Cy Young Field, Including Paul Skenes. Yesterday, we started it off with the AL Cy chase - today it's the NL's turn. If he was in the big leagues from the beginning, he'd be a qualifier, and I'm making the executive decision to cut him a break.

9/15/24 Braves' Chris Sale: Shohei Ohtani Is 'A Special Player'. The Los Angeles Dodgers dropped a second consecutive game to the Atlanta Braves on Saturday as they were stymied by National League Cy Young Award favorite Chris Sale. The left-hander held the Dodgers to just one run and five hits in six innings of work. It was the only time Ohtani reached base as he continues the chase for the first 50-50 season in MLB history.

9/15/24 Chris Sale stymies Dodgers and Ohtani on his way to 17th win as Braves beat LA 10-1. Chris Sale allowed one run and struck out six over six innings, shutting down Shohei Ohtani in the process, for his major league-leading 17th win of the season as the Atlanta Braves beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 10-1. Sale (17-3), who hasn’t been charged with a loss since June 27, became the first player in Braves history to allow no more than two earned runs in 17 straight starts, passing Hall of Famer Greg Maddux’s previous record of 16 starts. Matt Olson had four RBIs to lead the Braves at the plate. Ohtani had a strikeout and walk and remains stalled in his quest for 50 homers and 50 steals.

9/14/24 Did Chris Sale pitch himself into the HOF this year?. Chris Sale's pitching career has endured more twists and turns than his famous unorthodox delivery. From 2012 to 2018, Sale -- first with the Chicago White Sox and then, following a trade, with the Boston Red Sox -- was one of the best starting pitchers in the majors, receiving Cy Young votes each season (although never finishing first). In a 2024 resurgence with the Atlanta Braves, Sale is 16-3 with a 2.38 ERA and 213 strikeouts, leading the National League in all three pitching Triple Crown categories (wins, ERA and K's).

9/07/24 Renaissance Season Restores Significance To The Career Of Chris Sale. Left-handed starting pitcher Chris Sale is experiencing a career renaissance in his first season with the Atlanta Braves after a December 2023 trade from the Boston Red Sox. Once on a trajectory bound for the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum as the 13th pick in the first round of the 2010 draft by the Chicago White Sox, Sale's career has been derailed by a series of injuries over the past six seasons. A favorite to win the National League Cy Young Award, it would be an impressive accomplishment for Sale after seven consecutive top six finishes in American League voting (2012-2018) while never securing the sport's top pitching prize.

9/07/24 Ex-Red Sox Superstar Has Award 'In The Bag' Showing Trade Failed In 2024. The Boston Red Sox swung a major trade this past offseason. Boston traded longtime ace Chris Sale to the Atlanta Braves for infielder Vaughn Grissom after an injury-plagued few seasons. Sale at one point was one of the best pitchers in baseball as a member of the Red Sox, but he didn't look like himself over the last four seasons. It's not surprising that Boston traded him and landing Grissom was a great pickup.
