10/05/24 Cardinals $130 Million Superstar Could Sign With Surprise AL Team. The only thing that seems certain about the upcoming offseason for the St. Louis Cardinals is that first baseman Paul Goldschmidt won't be back in the organization in 2025. 10/04/24 Cardinals Fan Favorite Labeled 'Least Valuable Player' In NL After Troubling 2024. The St. Louis Cardinals will explore different ways to reduce payroll this winter as they seek to reset the franchise after years of neglecting player development. Given the Cardinals still have several stars on the roster with lucrative contracts, multiple notable players could be on the trade block this winter. Speaking of value, a St. Louis fan favorite recently landed his name in a list of the least valuable players in the league after enduring the worst season of his career at the plate. Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt was listed as the No. 3 National League LVP, with Colorado Rockies' Kris Bryant at No. 1 and Washington Nationals Joey Gallo at No. 2, according to New York Post's Jon Heyman.

10/03/24 Mariners Predicted To Land Cardinals $130 Million Star Ending Stint. It seems like a strong possibility that at least one St. Louis Cardinals cornerstone will not be playing for the franchise by the time the 2025 season rolls around. It already has been reported that the Cardinals don't plan to reunite with first baseman Paul Goldschmidt this winter in free agency. A handful of teams already have been mentioned as landing spots, and Bleacher Report's Erik Beaston predicted that Goldschmidt could sign with the offense-needy Seattle Mariners. "The (Cincinnati Reds), (Los Angeles Angels), Mariners, and (Minnesota Twins) are all teams that could use upgrades at the position and, with (USA Today Sports' Bob Nightengale) reporting the Mariners would be interested in acquiring Pete Alonso, it is an organization Goldschmidt could call home should the Polar Bear opt to sign elsewhere," Beaston said.

9/27/24 Cards' Paul Goldschmidt looks to make himself at home vs. Giants. The San Francisco Giants will find themselves staring at a potential difference-maker in their future when Paul Goldschmidt and the St. Louis Cardinals visit Friday night for the start of the final three games of the regular season. Neither the Giants (79-80) or Cardinals (81-78) will be participating in the postseason next week, so each team enters the head-to-head with the same goal: Finish above .500. Coming off a remarkable 7-2 road trip to Baltimore, Kansas City and Arizona, the Giants find themselves needing to sweep the series to finish over .500 for the first time since 2021. Meanwhile, the Cardinals still need just one win to finish north of the break-even mark for the 16th time in the past 17 years.

A St. Louis Cardinals slugger is on the verge of pulling off an incredible feat despite enduring one of the worst seasons of his illustrious career. 9/04/24 Cardinals Fan Favorite Seen As Significant Liability; Could Trade Be Imminent?. The St. Louis Cardinals are in a difficult position to give a forecast for the organization's future but analyzing payroll is a great place to start. The most significant contract to consider is seven-time All-Star Paul Goldschmidt, who becomes a free agent this offseason. It's too early to tell whether the Cardinals will move on from the decorated first baseman but it's looking like there could be a chance he re-signs with St. Louis. In the event that the Cardinals decide to free up salary space this offseason, another superstar could be on the move if the organization agrees with what Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter said on Wednesday.

9/02/24 Cardinals could pursue reunion with former slugger this offseason. The St. Louis Cardinals have drawn slightly closer in the National League Wild Card race but are still longshots to reach the postseason. St. Louis sits five games back of the Atlanta Braves. In the event that the Cardinals miss the postseason, they'll likely need some help with their offense, particularly from the right side of the plate. Paul Goldschmidt is likely to depart in free agency.
