10/01/24 The Wait For a Great North Texas Championship Defense Continues. The 2024 Texas Rangers never hit their stride, undone by poor health and worse hitting. It's easy to forget now, having come out the other side of four and half months of mediocrity, that Texas held the A.L. West lead more than six weeks into the season. The battered rotation, a gamble from the beginning, never congealed into a solid unit so much as a collection of names floating in and out around Nathan Eovaldi and Andrew Heaney. The bullpen was Kirby Yates, David Robertson, and a giant shrug emoji, which, in fairness, was considerably improved over last year's group.

9/29/24 Nathan Eovaldi and Dustin Harris power Rangers to 8-0, season-ending sweep of Angels. Nathan Eovaldi pitched seven scoreless innings, Dustin Harris had a homer and two-run double in his second MLB game and the defending champion Texas Rangers closed out their season with an 8-0 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday. Nathaniel Lowe also homered and Josh Smith drove in two runs for the Rangers, who were eliminated from postseason contention Sept. 20. Texas finished the season with its first sweep of a three-game series since late August, against the Chicago White Sox.

9/17/24 Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi unlocked a player option in start vs. Blue Jays. What that means. Texas Rangers starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi unlocked a vesting player option written into his contract during Tuesday's 13-8 win vs. the Toronto Blue Jays when he pitched his 300th inning since he signed with the club prior to last season. What that means for Eovaldi: He can either exercise his option and return to Texas next season at $20 million or he can decline it and enter free agency.

9/09/24 Rangers, D-backs get together for World Series rematch. The Texas Rangers have returned to Phoenix for their first appearance in the city since clinching the World Series crown last Nov. 1. The two starting pitchers Tuesday squared off in the decisive Game 5 -- Nathan Eovaldi pitched six shutout innings to get the win for Texas and Zac Gallen allowed one run and three hits over 6 1/3 innings while taking the loss for the Diamondbacks.

The New York Post may receive an affiliate commission if you sign up through our links. Read our editorial standards for more information. To say the Rangers have face planted as defending World Series champions would be a vast understatement. They are on pace for a top-three worst defending-champion campaign since the AL shifted to 162 games in 1961, entering Wednesday's game with a 66-73 record. Texas has less than a one percent chance of making the postseason after sticking to its guns at the trade deadline and going 12-15 in August. The Rangers dropped a wacky series to the Yankees in that time that made for 12 runs scored per nine innings. Nathan Eovaldi #17 of the

9/04/24 Rangers listed as possible fit for Orioles ace this offseason. The Texas Rangers have fallen on hard times after winning the 2023 World Series. Nathan Eovaldi may opt out of his contract and re-enter the free agent portal. This leaves a hole in their starting rotation, and Zach Rymer of Bleacher Report listed them as a possibility for Baltimore Orioles ace Corbin Burnes.

8/17/24 Twins rally late to beat Rangers, trim AL Central deficit. The Texas Rangers drew nearly 30,000 fans to Globe Life Field on Thursday by giving away replicas of Nathan Eovaldi's World Series championship ring. On Saturday, the Rangers right-hander demonstrated for seven innings how he earned the real thing. Combined with the Cleveland Guardians' loss in Milwaukee, the Twins whittled their AL Central deficit to two games behind Cleveland.

8/16/24 Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi Gets Update Following Injury Scare. Texas Rangers starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi should be alright after exiting his last start prematurely. 8/15/24 Could ex-Red Sox ace be part of Rangers 'waiver purge?' MLB insider weighs in. The Texas Rangers have essentially fallen out of postseason contention since the Major League Baseball trade deadline after they elected to make minimal moves and hope their internal options would help improve the club. The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal floated possibilities of who the 2023 World Series champions could go with, which included ex-Boston Red Sox ace Nathan Eovaldi. Eovaldi is owed about $2.6 million and Rosenthal states that teams would save roughly “one-sixth of players' remaining salaries in 2024 if they dump them before the Aug. 31 deadline for playoff eligibility.”

8/14/24 Waiving Nathan Eovaldi, Kirby Yates And Others Would Be Very Bad Look For World Series Champion Texas Rangers. Could the Texas Rangers let World Series hero Nathan Eovaldi walk out the door? It's possible, according to The Athletics' Ken Rosenthal, who pondered potential MLB moves ahead of the Aug. 31 waiver trade deadline. "Nathan Eovaldi, who has a 3.05 ERA in 79 2/3 postseason innings, almost certainly would be (claimed), and the Rangers could take a chance by exposing him to waivers as well," Rosenthal wrote.

8/13/24 Nathan Eovaldi's skipped start puts Texas Rangers' pitching staff on even thinner ice. The Texas Rangers have still not named a starting pitcher for Wednesday's series finale against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. Nathan Eovaldi — whose turn in the rotation would be that game — is officially not an option. Eovaldi, who left his Saturday start against the New York Yankees with right side tightness, will have his next start pushed back according to manager Bruce Bochy.
