Arizona third baseman Eugenio Suarez received his first ejection as a member of the Diamondbacks Thursday in Thursday's 9-3 win at the Los Angeles Dodgers. Suarez had argued balls and strikes with home plate umpire Stu Scheurwater after going down looking twice. Suarez received the hook going into the bottom of the eighth inning after he came back out on defense. D-backs manager Torey Lovullo had words for the umpiring crew, while bench coach Jeff Banister put himself between Suarez and the umpires and escorted his player back to the dugout. There has been a trend with Suarez over the past three seasons to find a groove after a very slow start at the plate, and his first two months-plus with the D-backs have followed a similar pattern. Among 151 qualified hitters, Suarez entered Wednesday with the ninth-lowest OPS at .612 and 11th-lowest slug at .328. | 6/13/24 | Diamondbacks make big third base decision amid Eugenio Suarez slump. The Arizona Diamondbacks were optimistic about having Eugenio Suarez as their everyday third baseman in 2024. That seems to be extinguished after the D-backs inserted rookie Blaze Alexander into the lineup on Wednesday, with manager Torey Lovullo citing that Suarez will be out of the lineup for the next few days , per Bob Nightengale. The Diamondbacks acquired Suarez in a trade with the Seattle Mariners last November. He appeared in all 162 games for Seattle last year, recording a .232 batting average with 22 home runs, 29 doubles and 96 RBIs. He led the American League in strikeouts for the second consecutive season with 214. Things have gotten worse for Suarez since he joined the D-backs.
