Mets reliever Brooks Raley will undergo Tommy John surgery next week, manager Carlos Mendoza confirmed after Tuesday's loss to the Cleveland Guardians. Tim Healey of Newsday was the first to report the news earlier Tuesday night. “It's unfortunate because he gave it everything he had,” Mendoza said, via SNY. Mendoza said that Raley tried to pitch this week but it didn't feel right, so he went back to the doctor and decided to have surgery on his elbow. Left-handed relief pitcher Brooks Raley has a UCL sprain and will be shutdown for two weeks before being re-evaluated, as manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters in Philadelphia on Wednesday. The good news, according to Mendoza, is Raley's latest round of testing showed healing in his elbow. Speaking with reporters on Saturday at Citi Field, Raley confirmed that he will travel to Texas to meet with orthopedic surgeon Dr. Keith Meister on Tuesday. “It's a little more complex,” Raley said.
