7/05/24 | Astros survive Twins rally, win 13-12. Jeremy Peña had three hits, scored three times and drove in three runs to help the Astros win for the 13th time in 15 games. Down 13-5 after Houston scored three times in the ninth, the Twins fell just short with a seven-run outburst. Josh Hader came on with two outs and gave up a grand slam to Carlos Correa before striking out Manuel Margot for his 15th save. "Sometimes it's not the way you draw it up, but you've got to be resilient and you've got to find a way, and our boys find a way,” Astros manager Joe Espada said. 6/27/24 | Josh Hader reminder of dangerous trade deadline for promising Mets. Josh Hader arrives at Citi Field on Friday not just as the closer for the suddenly red-hot Astros, but also as a reminder of the dangers of the trade deadline. The Mets, by virtue of their stunning reversal over the past few weeks, have gone from likely deadline sellers to perhaps buyers, just 1 ¹/2 games out of a wild-card spot. Another option, as The Post's Mike Puma noted recently, is doing both, potentially moving some starting pitchers with the possible return of Kodai Senga next month, as well as Christian Scott and Jose Butto pitching well at Triple-A. 3 Josh Hader, closer for the Houston Astros. 6/17/24 | Houston Astros Short-Tenured GM Won't Be Fired Despite Disappointing Results. This year has been anything but expected for the Houston Astros. Entering the season as favorites in the American League following their aggressive addition of Josh Hader, the team seemed poised to make another deep playoff run after they came just one game short of the World Series in 2023. Sitting at 33-39 coming out of the weekend slate, they are still a long ways away from being in the playoff picture, trailing the division lead by nine games and the final Wild Card spot by seven. Houston will need to start ripping off wins in a hurry to put themselves in a position where they can make the postseason, something that was unfathomable to even think could occur for this group just a few months ago.
