Jon Gray allowed two hits over five innings to rebound from his worst major league start and Wyatt Langford hit an eighth-inning grand slam that led the Texas Rangers over the Kansas City Royals 6-0. Gray allowed back-to-back third-inning singles. He gave nine earned runs and 11 hits in three innings-plus last Monday in a 14-2 loss to the New York Mets. Langford, a rookie who debuted on opening day, connected off Angel Zerpa for the Rangers’ first grand slam this season. World Series champion Texas has won three straight following a five-game losing streak.

After getting torched by the Mets for a career-high nine earned runs Monday night, Texas Rangers right-hander Jon Gray searched for answers as to why a solid stretch of play for him had come crashing to a halt. “My stuff was really good,” Gray told Texas reporters after the Mets took the first game of the series 14-2 at Globe Life Field. Two hitters and a coach disputed the notion that they knew what was coming. If there was any indication coming from Gray as to what he was throwing, they didn't catch on.

Mets fans are starting to think that's the case, as they have not lost since he threw out the first pitch at Citi Field six games ago. The latest proof Grimace sprinkled some good vibrations on the Mets with his pitch came on Monday night on the road against the Texas Rangers – a 14-2 blowout for New York. Coming into the game, Rangers starter Jon Gray owned a 2.17 ERA over 62.1 innings, which was one of the best marks in the league this season.
