7/04/24 Two-Time All-Star Is Looking For New Opportunity; Should Cardinals Consider?. The St. Louis Cardinals' biggest need right now is a starter to shore up the back of the rotation. St. Louis has shown this season that it can compete for a playoff spot but adding another depth starter would make things significantly easier. The Cardinals currently are missing Steven Matz so adding someone in his place as soon as possible would make sense. One player who is looking for an opportunity in the short term is two-time All-Star Johnny Cueto.

6/19/24 Cardinals Reportedly Promote Hurler Acquired In Jordan Hicks Trade. The St. Louis Cardinals rotation has held its own this season despite having to deal with instability in the No. 5 spot due to multiple injuries. To cope with the absence of Steven Matz and Drew Rom, the Cardinals have utilized Andre Pallante and even tried transitioning reliever Matthew Liberatore to a starting role for a short period of time. There could be a new solution for the time being, with the latest roster move by St. Louis, which would give a young starter his Major League Baseball debut. "The (Cardinals) are calling up right-handed pitcher Adam Kloffenstein," The Athletic's Katie Woo reported Wednesday.

6/13/24 Cardinals Seen As Contenders To Land White Sox Hurler As Part Of Chicago's Fire Sale. The St. Louis Cardinals rotation is vastly improved from where it was a year ago but it could still use some much-needed bolstering by adding another proven starter. The Cardinals rotation ranks No. 18 with a 4.02 ERA despite being without one of its starters -- Steven Matz -- since the beginning of May. In the meantime, the club has had to fill the vacancy with spot starters. If the Cardinals are serious about contending this year, they'll need to trade for another starting pitcher and recent speculation links St. Louis with a candidate who could make a difference. Chicago White Sox right-handed pitcher Erick Fedde was recently mentioned as an option the Cardinals could target at the July 30 trade deadline, according to The Athletic's Jim Bowden on Thursday.

6/02/24 Cardinals' Oli Marmol reveals huge Steven Matz injury update. 5/29/24 Andre Pallante gives Cardinals 6 scoreless innings in series-clinching win against Reds. The fifth starter spot in the Cardinals rotation has remained a question mark ever since Steven Matz went on the injured list at the beginning of May. For at least one day, Andre Pallante provided an answer. Pallante, who made 108 of his 118 previous appearances in the majors out of the bullpen, tossed six scoreless innings and earned his first win as a starter in the big leagues since 2022. Pallante struck out more batters (four) than he allowed hits (three) and worked out of a pair of potential jams to set the Cardinals on a path to a 5-3 win Wednesday afternoon in the rubber match of their three-game set with the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park.
