6/30/24 | Yankees' Gleyber Torres delivers another two-hit game after benching. TORONTO — Gleyber Torres arrived north of the border in the midst of a “mental reset” and returned to the States as one of the Yankees' hotter hitters. Torres racked up his third straight two-hit game on Sunday in the Yankees' 8-1 win over the Blue Jays and is now 6-for-13 since returning from his two-day benching — which he entered in a 2-for-29 slump. “Feels good,” Torres said. “Just day-to-day and try to be focused every time I go to home plate now. Just enjoy. All my boys give me motivation, because they're grinding every at-bat. I just want to be part of those at-bats and try to do the little things.” Torres acknowledged feeling like the two days off have helped him. 6/28/24 | Gleyber Torres returns to Yankees' lineup after 2-game benching. As expected, Gleyber Torres rejoined the Yankees' lineup on Friday following a two-game benching. The second baseman found himself hitting fifth. Torres had not played since Tuesday, when he went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts, made his position-leading 12th error and failed to hustle on a soft groundball in a loss to the Mets. The next day, Aaron Boone said that he felt Torres needed a break and that the 27-year-old's lack of hustle caught the manager's attention. 6/27/24 | Why Yankees are so confident Gleyber Torres will break through after benching. As Gleyber Torres' season continues to spiral, Yankees manager Aaron Boone hasn't lost a sliver of confidence in his second baseman. “We're talking about someone that's in the physical prime of his career that has a long, long track record of hitting,” Boone said on Thursday afternoon before the opener of a four-game series against the Blue Jays. The trust in Torres to break through hasn't wavered. Boone even likened the situation to how reporters pestered him with Aaron Judge questions when the captain stumbled out of the gates in April, an uncharacteristic stretch before the superstar snapped back to his out-of-this-world reality.
