6/29/24 Slumping Mets veteran showing signs of breaking out. New York Mets' Jeff McNeil poses for photos after hitting a three-run home run against the Houston Astros during the sixth inning of a baseball game Friday, June 28, 2024, in New York. (AP Photo/Frank Franklin II) AP By Manny Gómez | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com NEW YORK — It seems like for most of the season Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil was settling for hits rather than earning them. Throughout the Mets' recent homestand, manager Carlos Mendoza has been praising the veteran second baseman's at-bats, insisting that McNeil, who entered Friday's game with a season-low .213 batting average, was close. In Friday's 7-2 win over the Astros at Citi Field, the player who won a batting title in 2022

6/28/24 Astros shortstop Jeremy Peña misplays pop fly while taking part in an in-game TV interview. Houston Astros shortstop Jeremy Peña misplayed a fly ball Friday night in a game against the New York Mets while participating in an in-game interview. Peña was involved in an interview with Apple TV+ just before New York's Jeff McNeil popped up toward the shortstop area with one out in the bottom of the second inning. Peña was shaded toward the second base bag against the left-handed hitting McNeil and ranged to his right and was on the edge of the outfield grass close behind third baseman Alex Bregman.

6/25/24 Mets have reason to believe Jeff McNeil can shake off latest horrific stretch. Jeff McNeil entered Tuesday's Subway Series opener at Citi Field hitless in his previous 15 at-bats, another bad stretch in what's been a horrendous season. But manager Carlos Mendoza said Tuesday that he liked what he saw from McNeil's at-bats in Sunday's win over the Cubs in Chicago , where McNeil failed to pick up a hit again. “He was better Sunday,'' Mendoza said. “He hit three bullets.” To Mendoza's point, McNeil lined out three times, once at 105 mph, a second at 99 mph and a third at 91. “He's hitting line drives right at people,'' Mendoza said. “It's hard for him because he's not getting results, but his at-bats have been better.” Carlos Mendoza believes Jeff McNeil's at-bats have improved

6/20/24 Jeff McNeil's continued funk giving Mets a Jose Iglesias conundrum. For about two months, Jeff McNeil did not produce as the everyday second baseman. For about three weeks, McNeil has not produced as essentially the platoon second baseman. The Mets second baseman has fallen deeper into this funk and will bring a .219 batting average — more than 100 points below his .326 mark that led the National League in 2022 — into a three-game set at Wrigley Field beginning Friday. 3 Jeff McNeill has not been performing at second base. Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports It is likely that the lefty swinger will be out of the lineup when the series begins and Cubs left-hander Shota Imanaga gets the ball. The question will become how long the Mets will continue to rely upon McNeil
