Friday night's showdown between the Houston Astros and Minnesota Twins featured 25 runs scored, but perhaps the most impressive play of the game came on the defensive end. Twins second baseman Willi Castro was up with a man on first and no outs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Astros rookie Joey Loperfido was tracking it the whole way, though, and he leapt up in an attempt to rob Castro. Willi Castro has given the Minnesota Twins unprecedented defensive versatility in 2024, making history just halfway through the season. Castro, who has appeared in all 84 games for the Twins so far this year, started at shortstop against the Seattle Mariners on Sunday. It marked his 21st appearance and 18th start at the position as he once again filled in for Carlos Correa, who got the day off. MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Willi Castro and Royce Lewis homered and Carlos Correa had a career-best five hits for the Minnesota Twins , who met Colorado starter Austin Gomber with a five-run first inning and finished with a season-high 24 hits in a 17-9 victory over the Rockies on Wednesday. Lewis, one of five Twins with three or more hits, went 3 for 5 and scored three times. Carlos Santana started the onslaught with a three-run double in the first and hit an RBI single in a seven-run eighth.
