6/25/24 Could Yankees Swing This Blockbuster Trade With NL Club to Upgrade 2 Areas of Need?. The New York Yankees have holes to address at the trade deadline next month, but there is another spot they could look to upgrade, which isn't necessarily viewed as a pressing area of need. According to SNY's John Harper, the Yankees may be looking for a catcher at the deadline this year after the Boston Red Sox ran all over them on June 16 with nine stolen bases in one game. Now veteran Jose Trevino had been putting together a solid season with the bat until recently, as he has gone ice cold, hitting .095 in his last seven games and .190 in his past 15. Per Baseball Savant, he is the best catcher in baseball in terms of framing pitches, but has lost arm strength behind the plate and has struggled to throw runners out on the base paths, posting -3 below average in catcher's caught stealing, which ranks 54th in the league.

6/21/24 Jose Trevino, Yankees looking to curb recent defensive woes. Prior to this past week, there didn't seem to be much of an issue with Jose Trevino's defense. Baserunners had swiped 19 bases with Trevino behind the plate and he'd thrown out nine. Then came Sunday's game in Boston when the Red Sox ran roughshod over Trevino, Marcus Stroman and the Yankees, stealing nine bases, with only one caught. And that was followed up by Baltimore's four stolen bases — against no caught steals — in Trevino's next start Wednesday. The storm appeared to pass Thursday as the aggressive Orioles swiped just one bag with Trevino catching. 3 Shohei Ohtani tries to score a run against Jose Trevino at Yankee Stadium on June 9, 2024 in New York City. 6/20/24 Did I jinx Yankees' Jose Trevino into 13 steals allowed in 2 games? He thinks so. It was just last Sunday afternoon in Boston that I had a 15-minute talk with Yankees catcher Jose Trevino. 6/19/24 Jose Trevino's stolen base problem isn't going away for Yankees. After not allowing more than three stolen bases in a game until the Red Sox had nine on Sunday, Jose Trevino saw Baltimore steal four bases with him behind the plate in Wednesday's 7-6, 10-inning loss . And his throwing error in the 10th when Cedric Mullins swiped third allowed Mullins to score a crucial run. Jose Trevino wears a dejected expression after committing a throwing error in the 10th inning of the Yankees' 7-6 loss to the Orioles. Charles Wenzelberg / New York Post Trevino said he didn't have a good grip on the ball on that throw, but otherwise was unconcerned about his recent difficulty on defense, even as his arm speed has decreased. He entered Wednesday having thrown out 26 percent

6/17/24 The Yankees warning signs the Red Sox exposed for all to see. Based purely on Jose Trevino's arm strength and pop time, perhaps the Red Sox stealing nine bases off him and the Yankees' pitchers on Sunday night should not have been all that surprising. But no other team had taken advantage of Trevino like that, which raises the question: Did the Red Sox expose a Yankees flaw and provide a blueprint for other teams to copy, or was it just one bad night overall for the Yankees' run-game operation? ”There's certain teams that that's their DNA; that's how they're going to play,” manager Aaron Boone said. “Obviously, the Red Sox have a number of fast players, and that's how they play the game. We've faced a handful of teams that you go in and it's similar and
