Emmanuel Clase has made saving an American League-best 24 games look almost effortless at times, but closing out Sunday's 6-5 win against Toronto required a little more work than usual as Cleveland's two-time All-Star put the go-ahead run on base with two out in the ninth. A walk to Spencer Horwitz, who had already homered twice in the game, put the tying run aboard with one out, and Justin Turner's single to center made Clase's at-bat against George Springer just a little more uncomfortable than he has been used to over his last dozen appearances or so. Emmanuel Clase's reign of dominance with the Cleveland Guardians has put him in an elite category of closing pitchers. After Friday's 3-1 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays, Clase joined Craig Kimbrel and Jonathan Papelbon in baseball's history books when looking at their saves and ERA throughout the beginning of each pitcher's careers. | 6/12/24 | Emmanuel Clase's Historic Save Leads Guardians Over Reds. Emmanuel Clase has been the best closer in baseball this season and it hasn't been close. Not only does he lead all of baseball in saves with 20, but he's also making Cleveland Guardians franchise history along the way. Clase came into Tuesday night's game against the Cincinnati Reds with an opportunity to add another save to the list.
