7/06/24 MLB draft preview: Mariners open to idea of selecting a prep pitcher at No. 15. Over the past nine years, the Mariners have tried just about everything early in the MLB draft. After that, they had tremendous success turning to college pitchers in the first round for three straight years, taking Logan Gilbert (No. 14 in 2018), George Kirby (No. 20 in 2019) and Emerson Hancock (No. 6 in 2020). Since then, they have leaned in on the high-risk, high-reward upside of high-school position players, selecting catcher Harry Ford No. 12 in 2021 and middle infielder Cole Young No. 21 in 2022, and last year using their three first-rounders on shortstop Colt Emerson (No. 22), center fielder Jonny Farmelo (No. 29) and shortstop Tai Peete (No. 30).

6/28/24 The two things about first-place Seattle Mariners that are baffling. The Seattle Mariners are a baffling team. For several reasons, but really, just pick your poison. They lead the league in strikeouts, they struggle on the road, their biggest star isn't playing much like it – and despite all of this, they've been in first place in the AL West since early May. 'Absolute workhorse' Logan Gilbert has been Mariners' ace I sent out a poll on X asking Mariners fans to list the single most confusing thing to them about this team in an effort to figure out some of the more fascinating – or frustrating – questions about Seattle's roster. What's the single biggest thing that just DOES NOT make sense to you when it comes to this Mariners team? Road ERA/record and strikeout

6/23/24 Mariners notes: Logan Gilbert fantastic again, but first-place Seattle falters in Miami. The Mariners are 27-12 at T-Mobile Park and 18-23 on the road this season.

6/23/24 Gilbert pitches 8 scoreless innings for 2nd start in row and Mariners beat Marlins 9-0. Logan Gilbert pitched eight scoreless innings for the second straight start and the Seattle Mariners beat the Miami Marlins 9-0. Gilbert cattered four hits, struck out six and was aided by three double-play grounders, lowering his ERA to 2.71. The 27-year-old right-hander walked one, ending a string of three straight outings without allowing a base on balls. Dominic Canzone homered, had three singles and scored three runs, while Ryan Bliss doubled twice and singled for the Mariners. Dylan Moore had two doubles among Seattle’s seven extra-base hits. Miami had won its previous three games, all walk-offs.
