6/28/24 Cardinals OF Lars Nootbaar (oblique) to begin rehab assignment. After spending a month on the injured list with an oblique strain, St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Lars Nootbaar is set to begin a rehab assignment Friday at Double-A Springfield. Nootbaar, 26, has not played since May 29, when his two hits gave him seven total hits in a span of four games as he was just starting to recover from a slow start. Nootbaar started the season on the injured list with a rib injury.

6/28/24 Miles Mikolas' recent run of strong outings hit a big snag against the Reds on Thursday night. A potential impact bat could return to the Cardinals' lineup in the near future, but they needed a lot more firepower than one additional hitter to overcome the offensive onslaught the Cincinnati Reds unleashed on them on Thursday night. Prior to the game, the Cardinals announced outfielder Lars Nootbaar will begin a rehab assignment on Friday with Double-A Springfield. By the end of the fifth inning, Nootbaar could've safely hit the road with the knowledge that the series opener against the Reds had already been decided. Cardinals right-hander Miles Mikolas entered the night on a hot streak as far as producing quality starts and competitive outings, but the Reds scored in each of the five innings that Mikolas took the mound and put 10 runs on their way to handing the Cardinals an 11-4 loss in front of an announced crowd of 32,787 in the opener of a four-game series at Busch Stadium.

5/29/24 Cardinals' Lars Nootbaar injury status after concerning exit gets update from Oliver Marmol. The St. Louis Cardinals are slowly but surely climbing towards relevancy in the NL Central. On Wednesday, the Cardinals took care of business against the struggling Cincinnati Reds, 5-3, to reach .500 (27-27) on the season. One of their most productive players, right fielder Lars Nootbaar, had to exit the game early after sustaining an injury to his side. Nootbaar attempted to play through the pain, as he did not immediately exit the contest after evidently feeling some pain towards his left oblique in the seventh inning.
