6/14/24 [The Score] - 5 MLB draft-eligible prospects to watch in 2024 CWS. The 2024 College World Series will have a different feel with top draft-eligible players Travis Bazzana, Charlie Condon, Nick Kurtz, Chase Burns, and Hagen Smith watching from home. The tournament, which runs June 14-24, is a big opportunity for NCAA players to make a strong impression before the 2024 MLB Draft in July. While the tournament is missing some star power, here are five prospects to watch in Omaha, Nebraska.!function(){"use strict";window.addEventListener("message",(function(a){if(void 0!==a.data["datawrapper-height"]){var e=document.querySelectorAll("iframe");for(var t in a.data["datawrapper-height"])for(var r=0;rJac Caglianone, Florida Icon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyProjected pickMLB.com: 5th, White SoxThe Athletic: 5th, White SoxESPN: 3rd, RockiesBaseball America: 4th, Athletics GP HR RBI R AVG/OBP/SLG 62 33 68 79 .411/.532/.860 IP ERA K WHIP 72.2 4.71 82 1.50 Caglianone was once again in the Golden Spikes conversation this season after finishing as a 2023 finalist. The "American Shohei Ohtani" is also a finalist for the John Olerud Award given to the NCAA's best two-way player. The 21-year-old is an imposing presence at 6-foot-5 in the batter's box as a left-handed slugger and can touch triple digits with his fastball from the left side. However, his future is likely as a first baseman in the majors.Braden Montgomery, Texas A&M Kate Woolson/Texas Rangers / Getty Images Sport / GettyProjected pickMLB.com: 4th, AthleticsThe Athletic: 9th, PiratesESPN: 7th, CardinalsBaseball America: 9th, Pirates GP HR RBI R AVG/OBP/SLG 61 27 85 65 .322/.454/.733 Montgomery is set to make history for the Aggies when the draft rolls around. The 21-year-old outfielder is projected to become the highest-drafted position player in school history. Tyler Naquin holds the current record as the No. 15 pick in 2012. Montgomery, a switch-hitter, has become a plus-power threat with a quick and aggressive swing.James Tibbs, Florida State Don Juan Moore / Getty Images Sport / GettyProjected pickMLB.com: 13th, GiantsThe Athletic: 12th, Red SoxESPN: 9th, PiratesBaseball America: 14th, Cubs GP HR RBI R AVG/OBP/SLG 62 28 94 71 .375/.497/.813 Tibbs will likely go high in the first round thanks to his left-handed power bat. The 21-year-old slugger has become a more disciplined hitter at the plate, recording 54 walks and just 31 strikeouts in 2024 - the best ratio of his collegiate career. The only knock on Tibbs is that he's limited as a defender in the outfield, which means he'll probably play left field or move to first base at the next level.Cam Smith, Florida State Don Juan Moore / Getty Images Sport / GettyProjected pickMLB.com: 14th, CubsThe Athletic: 17th, BrewersESPN: N/RBaseball America: 16th, Marlins GP HR RBI R AVG/OBP/SLG 62 16 56 79 .402/.497/.677 Smith already looks like a pro with his 6-foot-3, 220-pound frame. His batting average also jumped to over .400 after hitting .258 in his freshman season with the Seminoles. The 21-year-old could be a legit major-league third baseman thanks to a strong arm and improved running.Vance Honeycutt, North Carolina Icon Sportswire / Icon Sportswire / GettyProjected pickMLB.com: 19th, MetsThe Athletic: N/AESPN: N/RBaseball America: 21st, Twins GP HR RBI R SB AVG/OBP/SLG 59 26 58 85 28 .314/.409/.703 Honeycutt has all the tools to be a dynamic MLB player. He racked up a combined 63 homers with 76 steals over three years with the Tar Heels. He also won a second straight Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Year Award thanks to his outstanding work in center field. The only knock against the 21-year-old is a high strikeout rate after recording 80 this season over 288 plate appearances.Honorable mentions: Christian Moore (Tennessee), Ryan Waldschmidt (Kentucky), Billy Amick (Tennessee)

5/08/24 Kiley McDaniels' ESPN 2024 MLB Mock Draft: Bazzana to Guardians, Condon to Reds. ESPN's Kiley McDaniel has the Cleveland Guardians taking Oregon State second baseman Travis Bazzana with the top choice in his "mini" mock draft, followed by Condon going No. 2 to the Cincinnati Reds. McDaniel noted Bazzana and Florida's Jac Caglianone are the "leading options" for Cleveland right now due to the team's preference, not an indication of potential signing bonus savings since those don't get "floated until much later" in the process.
