6/30/24 Pirates Ponder Position Player Adds Amid Young Pitcher Breakthroughs. Pittsburgh Pirate fans have been beaten down over recent seasons and are slow to become optimistic about their club. There were a couple of Andrew McCutchen's prime seasons when they were relevant, and before that you have to go back to Barry Bonds' slender years to find anything resembling glory days. Well, here we are, barely halfway through the 2024 season (the Pirates stand at 40-42 through Sunday's games), and the club is in an interesting position. Outfielder Bryan Reynolds is their only standout offensive player - DH Andrew McCutchen and 2B Nick Gonzales have been reliable, and SS Oneil Cruz has balanced out his eyepopping strengths and over-the-top weaknesses to be an essentially league-average player.

Cincinnati has lost four of five and eight of 11.

6/19/24 "My nickname was Pittsburgh." Pirates centerfielder Andrew McCutchen reflects on the legacy of Willie Mays. The baseball world is in mourning after an icon of the sport, Willie Mays, died on Tuesday at age 93. The 24-time all-star had a career that spanned 22 seasons across Major League Baseball and the Negro Leagues. San Francisco, the club he was most known for playing for, released a statement saying Mays had "passed away peacefully this afternoon." Following the Pirates 2-1 loss to the Reds on Tuesday, Andrew McCutchen, who spent one season in San Francisco, reflected on Mays's impact on the game of baseball.

6/15/24 Andrew McCutchen Makes More Pittsburgh Pirates History By Blasting Home Run. The Pittsburgh Pirates have had plenty of home run hitters in their storied, 142-year history, and Andrew McCutchen has managed to best almost all of them. The veteran hit his 308th career homer against the Colorado Rockies on Friday night, helping to lift his team to a 5-2 road win. McCutchen now has 224 home runs as a member of the Pirates, 40 of which have come as a leadoff hitter. According to TSN's StatsCentre, that moves McCutchen into a tie for second place on the Pirates' all-time leaderboards for home runs from the leadoff position.
