7/06/24 | BenFred: Why Jordan Walker's name will provide hot-stove fodder as Cardinals near trade deadline. One of your biggest stars, Paul Goldschmidt, is a 36-year-old pending free agent. One of your other biggest stars, Nolan Arenado, is a 33-year-old veteran who has made it quite clear he's desperate to win now, not later. 6/13/24 | Goldschmidt, Donovan homer and Cardinals beat Pirates 4-3. Paul Goldschmidt and Brendan Donovan homered, and the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-3. Lance Lynn went 4 1/3 innings, snapping a string of four straight quality starts by Cardinals pitchers. Lynn allowed three runs on four hits, walked three and struck out five. Chris Roycroft (1-0) earned his first major league decision as five different Cardinals relievers combined for 4 2/3 scoreless innings. Andrew Kittredge earned his first save. Mitch Keller (8-4) allowed four runs on eight hits in six innings. Keller struck out four and walked none as the Pirates lost for the third time in their last four games. 6/11/24 | MLB rumors: Cardinals plan to buy at trade deadline, but there's a Paul Goldschmidt caveat. The St. Louis Cardinals are hovering just below .500 at 31-33, which puts them fourth in the National League Central. With that in mind, the organization is expected to be buyers, not sellers at the trade deadline unless things go downhill ahead of July 30th. 6/08/24 | Despite gifts galore from Rockies, how Cardinals crumbled with frayed play, a lead lost. There was a moment there in the sixth inning as the Colorado Rockies busily tried to hand the game Saturday to the Cardinals that the stars aligned. Paul Goldschmidt had been given a gift as the Rockies chucked a bases-loaded bouncer toward first base into a bases-clearing error that tied the game. With two outs and his highly decorated peer now in scoring position, Nolan Arenado delivered with an RBI single — just one All-Star corner infielder taking advantage of the opportunity to drive in another All-Star corner infielder and give the Cardinals the lead, all according to design. The Cardinals could not outrun a ragged game that included too little offense without help from Colorado and too many misplays defensively that boosted the Rockies to a 6-5 victory at Busch Stadium.
