6/22/24 Rockies Journal: Who might Colorado GM Bill Schmidt deal at trade deadline?. The Rockies don't like the word “rebuilding.” They prefer “reconstruction.” Regardless of what they call it, the team is transitioning as it trends toward its second consecutive 100-loss season. However, wheeling and dealing are usually not part of the Rockies' blueprint, making it hard to predict what they'll do as the July 30 trade deadline approaches. That said, general manager Bill Schmidt changed the traditional schematics last summer. He added seven pitching prospects while trading veterans C.J. Cron (first base), Randal Grichuk (outfield), Mike Moustakas (corner infield), Brad Hand (left-handed reliever) and Pierce Johnson (right-handed reliever). In November, Schmidt acquired starting

3/24/24 Red Sox Make Decisions On Opt-Out Candidates Before Opener. Sign In Joely Rodríguez and C.J. Cron both triggered opt-out clauses in their respective contracts Friday, which forced the Red Sox to make a decision on each player by Sunday. One player was added to Boston's roster, while the other will continue his baseball journey elsewhere. Rodríguez will join the Red Sox bullpen , per The Boston Globe's Alex Speier. Chris Murphy's elbow injury left Brennan Bernadino as Boston's only healthy left-handed reliever, so Rodríguez was an obvious choice to slide in and add depth. The 32-year-old appeared in 11 games for the Red Sox last season and logged a 6.55 ERA across 11 total innings. Cron, meanwhile, was released Sunday, the club announced. The 11th-year

3/22/24 C.J. Cron, Joely Rodriguez opt out of minor league deals, but both hope to stay with Red Sox. Veteran first baseman C.J. Cron and lefthanded pitcher Joely Rodriguez exercised the right to opt out of their minor league deals with the Red Sox on Friday. The Sox have until Sunday to decide whether to add the two to their big league roster or permit them to become free agents. Both players expressed hope of remaining with the Sox. Cron — a career .260/.320/.471 hitter who posted a .248/.295/.434 line with the Rockies and Angels last year — signed with the Sox in early March, and has had just 15 spring training plate appearances, going 2 for 11 with three walks.

3/19/24 As Red Sox make roster decisions, opt outs loom for veterans in camp. As the Red Sox put the finishing touches on their Opening Day roster ahead of next week's season opener in Seattle, they'll have to account for the fact that some veterans fighting for spots in camp have the ability to leave and re-test free agency later this week. Three veterans in camp — first baseman C.J. Cron, catcher Roberto Pérez and lefty reliever Joely Rodríguez — will all have the ability to opt out of their contracts Friday because of the type of free agents they are, multiple sources confirmed this week. As article XX(B) free agents (players who have at least six years of MLB service time and finished the previous season on a club's 40-man roster or 60-day injured list) who signed non-roster deals, that is their right. The Red Sox, therefore, must decide by Friday whether or not they plan to carry those players on the 26-man roster to start the year.

3/17/24 Red Sox veteran slugger vying for Opening Day roster 'feels no different'. C.J. Cron has belted 187 home runs in 10 major league seasons (1,049 games). “I'm definitely trying my best to make this ballclub, for sure,” Cron said Sunday at JetBlue Park. “I feel like I'm fairly level-headed throughout everything,” Cron said.
